The Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (German: Leibniz-Institut für Gewässerökologie und Binnenfischerei, IGB) is a research institution that is sponsored by the Forschungsverbund Berlin e. V. (FVB) and is a member of the scientific community Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (WGL). The institute is based in Berlin-Friedrichshagen, its research activities are classified as basic research in the natural sciences and in the fields of biology and ecology.[1]
In August 2022, the Institute announced that a large overgrowth of toxic Prymnesium parvum algae caused by industrial pollution was likely the cause of the 2022 Oder environmental disaster.[2]
