Work in Rhode Island[edit]

Azzi-Lessing founded Rhode Island’s first family support center, offering a full array of services to a-risk children and their families, through the Providence-based organization Children’s Friend, which she was executive director of from 1994 until 2007.[6][7][8][9]

In 2006, Politician Jack Reed presented her with a Congressional Angels in Adoption award. He said, "For over 12 years, Dr. Lenette Azzi-Lessing has served as Executive Director of Children’s Friend. In this position, Azzi-Lessing has led the agency to new heights in fulfilling its mission of promoting the well-being and healthy development of Rhode Island’s most vulnerable children by providing flexible, effective, and culturally relevant services that support and strengthen families and communities."[10]

Work with children's rights[edit]

Azzi-Lessing has served as a child welfare expert in court on behalf of the organization, Children’s Rights, in court cases involving child protective services agencies, such as the Arizona Department of Child Safety and the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families.[11][12][13]
