Lennon Boyle
Lennon Boyle is the current Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament for the East Kilbride constituency alongside Jack Donaghy[2]. Boyle was elected on the 9th of December 2021 by an overwhelming majority, becoming one of 200 MSYPs elected in 2021[3]. As one of the MSYPs for East Kilbride, Boyle is tasked with encouraging the involvement of young people in local politics and meeting regularly with local elected officials including Councillors, Members of parliament and Members of the Scottish Parliament.
Local Youth Work
Lennon Boyle is a current member of the South Lanarkshire Youth Council under the current Chairperson Crisantos Ike, who is also a Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament and currently sits on the board of the Organisation.[4]
Boyle plays an important role in the distribution of Scottish National Entitlement Cards to young people by engaging with Schools and Youth Organisations, such as Young Scot, within his constituency of East Kilbride. Boyle often visits Strathaven Academy, Duncanrig Secondary School, St Andrew's and St Bride's High School and Calderglen High School to hear the views of his constituents and to gather the opinions of pupils to influence any local legislation which may impact them.
Work within the Scottish Youth Parliament
Lennon Boyle is currently a member of the Equality and Human Rights Subject Committee, which seeks to break down and approach Scottish Parliament legislation concerning Equality and Human Rights with the perspectives of their constituents.[5]
Boyle has attended multiple sittings of the Scottish Youth Parliament including the most recent one which was held at Dynamic Earth, despite it usually taking place within the Scottish Parliament building the venue was changed due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
Boyle is supportive of education reform, the implementation of a 4-day work week and cost-of-living support for young, vulnerable people.
Controversy
Lennon Boyle was removed from the official MSYP group chat twice due to arguments started with other MSYPs. Boyle had to attend a meeting with his support worker and the Scottish Youth Parliament’s Chief Executive Ben Mckendrick where Boyle had to agree to avoid any debates with other MSYPs.
