Leoni Wiring Systems Southeast was established on 3 April 2009, with the headquarters in Prokuplje, Serbia. The company was established through Government of Serbia subsidies to the German cable manufacturing company Leoni AG.[5][6][7] Leoni Wiring Systems Southeast built its facility in Prokuplje on the foundations of bankrupted company "FIAZ Prokuplje" (asbestos manufacturing) in 2009.[8]

As of 2013, the facility in Prokuplje employed 1,750 people.[9] In August 2013, Leoni Wiring Systems Southeast started building its second facility in Malošište (near Doljevac), worth 21 million euros, that would employ 1,500 people by the end of 2014.[9][10]

In July 2017, Leoni Wiring Systems Southeast opened 6,000 square meter facility in the city of Niš.[11][12] The President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić attended the opening ceremony and emphasized the importance of the German investments in Serbia, stating that Leoni has became one of the largest employers in Serbia.[11] Also, next to the opened facility, a new 22,000 square meter hall is being constructed.[12]

As of 2018, it employs around 6,000 people and has three facilities in Prokuplje, Malošište and Niš, all in radius of 15 kilometers.[3]

In February 2018, company's director announced that Leoni Wiring Systems Southeast is building its fourth facility in Kraljevo, worth 60 million euros.[3] It is planned to be completed by 2020 and it would span over 45,000 square meters, employing nearly 5,000 additional people.[3]

Market and financial data[edit]

Leoni Wiring Systems Southeast finished the 2016 calendar year with total revenues of 130.05 million euros and 6.65 million euros of net income.[1] It was, in 2016, Serbia's 65th largest company by revenue, and 62nd largest by profit.[1] In 2016, Leoni Wiring Systems Southeast was among the 15 largest exporter companies of Serbia, with 147.6 million euros worth of exports.[13]
