Leslie Carol Roberts
Leslie Carol Roberts is an American non-fiction author, research scholar, journalist and professor. Her writing and photographs have appeared in numerous publications in the U.S. and abroad, including The Sarasota Herald-Tribune, The Herald, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Nation (Bangkok), Christian Science Monitor, The St. Petersburg Times, The Tampa Tribune, The Baltimore Sun, and The Iowa Review.[1]
In 2003, Roberts was a Fulbright scholar to Gateway Antarctica at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, where she spent a year researching and writing about New Zealand's relationship with Antarctic exploration.[2]

While attending the University of Iowa, she was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship, allowing her to travel to New Zealand as a visiting scholar at the University of Canterbury's Gateway Antarctica International Research Center and work on her proposed study of "Amundsen's knife, Shackelton's sledge, and other wonders of New Zealand's Antarctic treasure chest".[3] She was the first Fulbright Fellow to focus on Antarctic Studies.[4]
Roberts earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, a master of fine arts from the University of Iowa, and a masters degree from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand.[5][6][better source needed]
Career[edit]
Roberts taught at the University of Iowa in the Department of Rhetoric for one year as a Visiting Lecturer[5] [6] and was Distinguished Visiting Writer at Saint Mary's College of California.[7] Roberts was Associate Director of the Stanford Professional Publishing in Palo Alto before joining the faculty at the California College of the Arts (CCA).[6]
Roberts was appointed chair of the M.F.A. Writing Program at California College of the Arts (CCA)[8] in 2017. She is a professor of Writing at CCA and has previously served as both Chair and Dean of the Design Department at the same college. In 2018, Roberts participated in a panel on the "Speculative Essay" at the Association of Writers and Writing Programs Conference in Tampa, Fla.[9]
