Libby Zietsman-Brodie (née Libby Brodie) (born 18 June 1983) is a wine consultant, columnist, journalist, presenter, and theatre producer. She founded Bacchus & Brodie Wine Consultancy and Libby Brodie Productions, creates and presents Youtube and IGTV show 'Boozy & The Beast: How To Drink Better' and started Supper Club No.9 with Green Room Distillery.

Early Life[edit]

Libby Brodie was born in London and raised in Cobham, Surrey, by her parents Michael and Lea Brodie. She has one younger brother, Callum, and went to Rowan Prep School and Tormead School. She travelled to South Africa and India before graduating from Bristol University with BSc Sociology with double honours.

Career[edit]

Early Career: Theatre[edit]

Upon graduation, Brodie became Theatre Administrator for The Prince of Wales Theatre in London’s West End. After another gap year of travel, she returned to the West End to work in theatre events and managed to get a side role reviewing scripts for Old Vic Productions before winning an internship with the Old Vic Theatre. When her internship ended the Old Vic created a role for Brodie and she stayed for a year as Development Assistant. During this time she was approached to produce the European premiere of Dream of the Dog[1] by Craig Higginson at the Finborough Theatre with her first production company ‘Meeting Point Productions’ (now Libby Brodie Productions). The play starred Dame Janet Suzman, Bernard Kay, Ariyon Bakare and Gracy Goldman, sold out and received critical rave reviews. “Produced with care and flair”[2] wrote Michael Coveney of The Independent and “a massive unmissable hit”[3] wrote Dominic Cavendish of The Telegraph. Brodie was approached by Ambassador Theatre Group to transfer the show to the West End proper in Trafalgar Studios. Soon after Brodie was headhunted to join Adam Spiegel Productions as assistant general manager and remained there for five years where she was promoted to associate producer.

In 2015, Brodie left to run her own production company Libby Brodie Productions, bringing New York production Waiting for Waiting for Godot by Dave Hanson to London’s St James's Theatre. LBP produces a range of shows from large scale musicals to international tours with a specific focus on new writing. Brodie is particularly passionate about working with writers and directors to develop scripts and produce original, dynamic work and has produced shows in 8 different countries.

LBP also produced a short film, Swings and Roundabouts[4] written and directed by Frances Loy and starring John Heffernan on the topic of miscarriage and child loss. Brodie was pregnant herself during this time.

When 2020 lockdown put theatre into limbo, Brodie re-trained with the Wine and Spirit Education Trust gaining WSET Level 3 with distinction.

Bacchus & Brodie Wine Consultancy[edit]

With a nod to the god of theatre and wine, Bacchus & Brodie was founded in January 2021 and works with private clients from individuals to galleries and events companies advising and supplying wine. With the social arm of the company @a_little_sip_of_me_time Brodie has worked with wine companies and producers on various campaigns including conducting interviews on IGTV live, taking part in panel tastings and co-ordinating and hosting webinars. Brodie has been employed as a presenter and ‘face’ for a number of events and promotional recordings.

Bacchus & Brodie teamed up with the award-winning Green Room Distillery and Chef Josh Dallaway to start a supper club in 2021 where she is found pairing and pouring at least once a month.

Brodie is proud to be an ambassador and judge for the People’s Choice Drinks Awards.

Journalism[edit]

Brodie became the regular wine columnist for City AM in April 2020. Since the paper returned to print in 2021 her page is named ‘Wine Down Wednesday: Wine Without The Snobbery’. She has also been published in industry papers The Buyer[5] and Club Oenologique[6] and appeared in the Metro[7]. Brodie regularly contributes on radio and has appeared on the Joe Marler Show teaching England Rugby player Marler about wine tasting.

Boozy & The Beast: How To Drink Better[edit]

Brodie creates and presents these short snippets and skits with long-term friend, photographer, rock-comedian, filmmaker and ex-professional rugby player Robin Boot. Boot loved how Brodie talked about wine calling it “easy, interesting and accessible” and together they started producing this series to share Brodie’s tips and tricks to help people drink better, without the snobbery.

Bright Trip[edit]

Brodie created and presented a course for US company Bright Trip founded by Johnny Harris and an affiliate of Lonely Planet, on wine tourism and visiting vineyards across the globe.

Personal life[edit]

Brodie married Matt Zietsman on a vineyard in South Africa in 2018. The couple live with their son in London.
