"Life Speaks to Me" is a song by Swedish musician Basshunter, released as a single on 19 November 2021 among others by PowerHouse and Iconic Music. It was written by Basshunter, Mohombi, Lucky Luke and Alexandru Cotoi, and produced by Lucky Luke and Alexandru Cotoi.

Description[edit]

"Life Speaks to Me" is two minutes and 33 seconds long,[1] has a tempo of 128 beats per minute and is written in the key of A-flat major.[2] The song was written by Basshunter, Mohombi, Lucky Luke and Alexandru Cotoi and produced by Lucky Luke and Alexandru Cotoi.[3] Basshunter said he wrote the song "Life Speaks to Me" as a tribute to Avicii after he found out that "Boten Anna" and Basshunter tutorial video inspired Avicii to create his own music. The lyrics in "Life Speaks to Me" are about life being a roller coaster and that it's easy to start doubting how good someone really is, which may lead to one sabotaging oneself. Basshunter said he hoped that listeners feel that it is an honest tribute to Avicii and that it makes people think about what to do to be able to feel good and what they really have to do. He added that life is short and someone does not have to make it shorter.[4]

Basshunter's previous single, "Angels Ain't Listening", was released on 29 May 2020.[5] "Life Speaks to Me" was released by PowerHouse and Iconic Music,[1] LAB Recordings,[6] nextBird Records,[7] Planetworks,[8] PowerHousePoland,[9] Roton Music,[10] Teta Records,[11] and Warner Music Sweden.[12] A lyric video for "Life Speaks to Me" made by Mvideospro was released by Basshunter on the same day.[13] On 14 January 2022 single was released in Russia by PowerHouse.[14]

Reception[edit]

The track was added to the Swedish top download and stream playlist on 3 December 2021.[15][16] "Life Speaks to Me" became second most-downloaded foreign track by radio stations in Russia.[17] It was added by Radio Eska to New Music Friday.[18]

The release of "Life Speaks to Me" was covered by the media. Renata Wilczura from NetFan.pl said that song has a strong message that the artist wants to share with his fans.[19] According to Petrut Nechifor from Radar de Media the message of the song is that even in difficult times, there is a balance that must not be forgotten.[20] Piotr Gryglewicz from DJ Raport said that in terms of dance, "Life Speaks to Me" seems a bit too melancholic, but here some remix could be helpful.[21] Mandy Rogers from EQ Music said that since "Home" and "Angels Ain't Listening" Basshunter developed his music style in different synthy and softer electronic-pop directions and agreed that track recreates the boundary-pushing style of the late Avicii music.[22]
