Lisa Batey is an American politician who currently serves as Mayor of Milwaukie, Oregon since 2023. Batey had previously served as a member of the Milwaukie City Council and worked as an attorney for the United States Government until 2022.[1][2]

Career

Batey was elected as chair of the Island Station Neighborhood Association in 2002 and was appointed to the Milwaukie Community Utility Advisory Board. Batey served on the Milwaukie Planning Commission for nine years and served as chair for three. Batey was a board member for the Milwaukie Farmers Market, the North Clackamas Watersheds Council, and the Milwaukie Parks Foundation.[3][4]

In 2014, Batey was elected to the Milwaukie City Council for Position 2, defeating incumbent David Hedges.[5] Batey was re-elected in 2018, defeating Oregon Public Utility Commission economist Elvis Clark.[6]

In 2022, Batey announced her intention to run for Mayor after incumbent Mark Gamba announced his run for State Representative. Batey faced fellow city councilor Kathy Hyzy and won by just 20 votes, a margin of 0.21%.[7] Batey was replaced on the City Council by Robert Massey.[8]

Personal Life

Batey was born in Oklahoma and moved to Milwaukie in 2002. Batey speaks fluent Russian[3]
