This is a list of characters that appear in the manga and anime series, Kingdom created by Yasuhisa Hara. Featuring an extensive cast of characters, the series details Qin's wars of unification undertaken by Ying Zheng as well as Li Xin, a young man who dreams of becoming one of the world's greatest generals

Main characters[edit]

Li Xin[edit]

Li Xin (李信, Ri Shin), (Shin in the Japanese version), is an orphan boy who grew up as a servant with his best friend Piao. Xin's behavior is predominantly impulsive, however, he inspires his comrades and those around him. After Piao's death, Xin decides to help the King of Qin, Ying Zheng, escape his enemies with the help of He Liao Diao. Although the two initially had little in common, he soon develops great respect for Ying Zheng after realizing that their respective dreams are interlocked. Shortly after helping Zheng stop his half-brother Cheng Jiao's rebellion in Qin, Xin enlists in the State of Qin army, and after demonstrating his determination and abilities, General Wang Qi appoints him as the leader of a special 100-man Fei Xin Unit. Appointing Qiang Lei and Yuan as his lieutenants, Xin joins Wang Qi in his attack on the State of Zhao. Since then Xin participated in numerous other campaigned over the years, displaying tremendous growth and earning various accomplishments on the battlefield that earn him and his unit recognition throughout the country. Following the conquest of Ye, Xin is officially promoted to the rank of General.

Ying Zheng[edit]

Ying Zheng (嬴政, Ei Sei) is the 31st king of the State of Qin. His dream is to unify all of China but has only a few years to do so. There are enemies that lay beyond the Qin state (Zhao, Wei, Chu, and other nations) and internal problems with his political rivals, minister Lu Buwei, who plans to take over the throne, as well as hi sown mother, the Queen Dowager Zhao. Although king, Ying Zheng's power was limited until he could be official correlated on his 22 birthday: at which point he stripped Lu Buwei of all his titles and fully accepted the role of King of Qin. His and Xin's goals became unified when Xin declares that he would be Ying Zheng's "sword" in the unification of China. He has a child with the servant woman Xiang named Rei.

He Liao Diao[edit]

He Liao Diao (河了貂, Ka Ryō Ten) is a young girl and the last descendant of a mountain tribe, but she keeps her identity a secret and dresses as a male. She joins Xin in helping Ying Zheng escape from Liu Bu's soldiers. Following the end of Chengjiao's rebellion, she started living with Xin in his newly acquired hut. After witnessing Wang Qi and Xin's war against the Zhao, she tells Shin of her intention to join the State of Qin Army. He Liao Diao is soon taken in as an apprentice of strategic warfare, and later, she is assigned to and becomes the official strategist for the Fei Xin Unit. It is hinted that she has romantic feelings for Xin, however, he sees their relationship as more like brother and sister.

Qiang Lei[edit]

Qiang Lei (羌瘣, Kyō Kai) is a superb swordswoman and an efficient killer. She is a former member of the Chi You, a female assassin group in which they advance the expense of killing rival candidates. After the death of her older sister, Qiang Xiang, in a rigged series of deathmatches, Qiang Lei vowed revenge against the woman who killed her. She joined the Fei Xin Unit after its formation and became a vice commander, keeping her gender a secret from the others. She is naive in the ways of the world but is much smarter than Xin and he relies on her for battle strategies as well as her sword skills. After Xin discovers her identity, she becomes more friendly and open towards him and she accepts her place in the unit, calling it her home. Her identity is revealed to the rest of the Fei Xin Unit after she is severely wounded in the battle against the Wei State. After recovering, she temporarily leaves the Unit in order to exact her revenge, promising to return once it is finished. It is inferred that she may have romantic feelings for Xin.

Wang Ben[edit]

Wang Ben (王賁, Ou Han) is the on of the current Wang family patriarch and Qin great general, Wang Jian. He is the future heir of the Wang family and relative of the late-Qin great general, Wang Qi. Staunch and strict, he does not joke around like Meng Tian or Xin and takes his duty with the utmost resolve. Wang Ben's greatest strength lies in his top notch spear skills. He is also aiming to become the next "Great General" together with Xin and Meng Tian. He is the commander of his own unit, the "Ye Feng Unit" comprising mostly cavalrymen of nobility origins.

Meng Tian[edit]

Meng Tian (蒙恬, Mou Ten) is the son of Meng Wu, grandson of the old general Meng Ao, brother of Meng Yi and commander of his own unit, the Ye Hua Unit. He is shown to be rather jovial, someone who does not take things seriously and an extrovert who even befriends even the other unit commanders who were also fighting to be generals like Xin and Wang Ben. He tends to wear flamboyant outfits that are more fitting for an aristocrat while on the battlefield and his personal unit also follows his style, leading them as being portrayed as a "joker" unit. However, whenever a battle commences, Meng Tian has proven to be an exceptional swordsman as well as displaying leadership and tactical planning.

State of Qin[edit]

Changwen Jun[edit]

Changwen Jun (昌文君, Shōbun Kun) was formerly a skilled warrior during the reign of King Zhaoxiang of Qin who worked his way up to be one of Qin's Chancellors along with Lord Changping. He is also a senior adviser of the king. He is extremely loyal to Ying Zheng, aiding him in both reclaiming the throne and in the political struggle against Ying's rival, Lü Buwei.

Bi[edit]

Bi (, Heki) is Lord Changwen's loyal subordinate. Initially, Bi was a 1,000-man commander who rose to the 3000-man commander and finally rises to the rank of General after contributing to many of Qin's military campaigns along with Xin. Xin is shown to rely on him, and he has had a crush on Yang Duan He since their first meeting.

Chengjiao[edit]

Chengjiao (成蟜, Sei Kyou) is Ying Zheng's younger paternal half-brother and a prince of Qin.

Lü Buwei[edit]

Lü Buwei (呂不韋, Ryo Fui) isa merchant turned Minister of Qin and one of the major antagonists of the series. He initially started out as a prominent and influential trader from Zhao. After helping the prince of Qin, Zhuangxiang, to escape captivity from Zhou's hands, he gained the position of Minister of the Right once Zhuangxiang became King. While helping Zhuangxiang gain power to ascend him to king, he started to bribe everyone he can and even offered his own fiance up to Zhuangxiang as his concubine. Over time he would usurp more power in the courts and made himself the chancellor of Qin while struggling for power against Ying Zheng.

This power struggle would finally come to a head during Zheng's coronation. During Lao Ai's rebellion he requests an audience with Zheng. In their meeting he reveals his reasons for wanting to rule Qin and his own method of ending the constant state of warfare.

Lord Changping[edit]

Lord Changping (昌平君, Shou Hei Kun), born Mi Xiong Qi (芈启), is the Head of Military Affairs for Qin.

Li Si[edit]

Li Si (李斯, Ri She) is a Legalist lawmaker in the state of Qin.

Wang Qi[edit]

Based on the real-life Qin general, Wang Yi, Wang Qi (王騎, Oo Kii) was the last remaining "Six Great General's" in the time of King Zhaoxiang of Qin. One of Qin's best generals even at the time of Ying Zheng's coronation, he trained and honed Li Xin's battle and leadership skills and also christened his unit the "Fei Xin Unit". During the Mayang Campaign, Wang Qi faces off against Pang Nuan, one of Zhao's Three Great Generals and the murderer of his fiancé and fellow Six Great's, Liao. Before he can finish Pang Nuan off he is shot from behind with an arrow, allowing Pang Nuan to stab his heart. Despite being mortally wounded he manages to continue fighting before retreated with Xin and his him. Away from the battle, Wang Qi gives Xin his poleax before finally succumbing to his wounds.

Teng[edit]

Based on the real-life Qin general, Neishi Teng, Teng (, Tou) is a Great General of Qin and the former right-hand man of Wang Qi.

Biao Gong[edit]

Biao Gong (麃公, Hi Hyou), also known as Lord Biao, is a Great General of Qin.

Meng Wu (蒙武, Mou Bu) is a Great General of Qin and the father of Meng Tian and Meng Yi.

Wang Jian (王翦, Ou Sen) is a Great General of Qin and the father of Wang Ben.

Huan Yi[edit]

Huan Yi (桓騎, Kan Ki) is a bandit and a Great General of Qin.

Yang Duan He[edit]

Yang Duan He (楊端和, Yoo Tan Wa) is the Mountain King of the mountainous tribes that borders Qin and Great General. She initially treated Xin and Ying Zheng with discontent due to how the previous Qin administration had neglected them after their treaty of co-existence lapsed for 400 years. After listening to Zheng's ambitions of unification as well as promising better relationships with the mountain tribes, Yang Duan He decided to trust Sei and the Qin again and followed Sei's advice on leading the mountainous tribes people into a newer world. After assisting with stopping Cheng Jiao's rebellion, she continued consolidating all the other loose tribes into one unified entity under her leadership. Later, she and her army assisted in defending Zui from Li Mu's Coalition. She was eventually promoted to General by Zheng.

Meng Ao[edit]

Meng Ao (蒙驁, Mou Gou) is a Great General of Qin and the father of Meng Wu and grandfather of Meng Tian and Meng Yi.

Zhang Tang (張唐, Chou Tou) is a Great General of Qin.

Meng Yi[edit]

Meng Yi (蒙毅, Mou Ki) is a tactician of Qin and the brother of Meng Tian.

Fei Xin Unit[edit]

The Fei Xin Unit is a Qin Military unit under the command of Li Xin. It was official created by General Wand Qi during the Battle of Mayang. As the unit continued participating in numerous battles in the corresponding years, their ranks gradually increased. Following the successful conquest of Ye from Zhao, the Fei Xin Unit is official renamed the Fei Xin Army, comprising of over 15,000 soldiers.

Yuan[edit]

Yuan (, Én) is one of the founding members of the Fei Xin Force. Initially appointed as Xin's and by Bi, he was inadvertently roped into Xin's trying under Wang Qi, quickly becoming a capable soldier an a lieutenant in the Fei Xin Unit. Since then he has participated in all of the unit's campaigns. He was especially prominent in the Anyang campaign by finding the strength to get his fellow soldiers across the river to attach the Zhao forces on the other side.

Wei Ping[edit]

Wei Ping (尾平, Bi Hei) is one of the founding members of the Fei Xin Force nd Wei Dao's older brother.

Wei Dao[edit]

Wei Dao (尾到, Bi You) is one of the founding members of the Fei Xin Force and Wei Ping's younger brother. During the battle of Mayang, Pang Nuan attacks the units camp and slaughters many of its members. He manages to save an injured Xin only to be mortally wounded by in the process. He encourages Xin on his dream of becoming a Great General before dying from blood loss.

Ze Gui[edit]

Ze Gui (澤圭, Taku Kei) is one of the founding members of the Fei Xin Force.

Chong Yuan[edit]

Chong Yuan (崇原, Suu Gen) is one of the founding members of the Fei Xin Force who specializes in swords.

Song Zuo[edit]

Song Zuo (松左, Shou Sa) is one of the founding members of the Fei Xin Force who specializes in spears. He later dies from his injuries trying to protective newest members of the unit. Before dying, he entrusted his spear to new recruit Gàn Dòu, who promises to honor his memory.

Qu Hai (去亥, Kyo Gai) is one of the founding members of the Fei Xin Force. He was later killed by Pang Yuan during the Western Zhao campaign.

Long Chuan (竜川, Ryuu Sen) is one of the founding members of the Fei Xin Force with a large body who wields a war mace.

Ye Hua Unit[edit]

The Ye Hua Unit is a Qin Military unit under the command of Mend Tian. Following the successful conquest of Ye from Zhao, the Ye Hua Unit is official renamed the Ye Hua Army, comprising of over 10,000 soldiers.

Hu Jian[edit]

Hu Jian (Ko Zen) is an adjutant of the Ye Hua Unit as well as Meng Tian caretaker, having helped to raise him at a young age. He cares deeply for Meng Tian, with the later referring to him as "Gramps". During the Wester Zhao campaign , Pang Nuan attacked the Ye Hua Unit's HQ with Hu Jian valiantly attempting to hold back the Bushin. He manages to stab him and is then immediately cut down.

Lu Xian[edit]

Ai Sen[edit]

Ai Sen (艾森, Ai Sen) is a lieutenant of the Ye Hua Unit, having been sent by Meng You in order to give the unit much needed physical strength.

Yu Feng Unit[edit]

The Yu Feng Unit is a Qin Military unit under the command of Wang Ben. Following the successful conquest of Ye from Zhao, the Yu Feng Unit is official renamed the Ye Hua Army, comprising of over 10,000 soldiers.

Pan Yang[edit]

Pan Yang (Ban You) is an adjutant of the Yu Feng Unit.

Li Mu (李牧, Ri Bokku) is one of the "Three Greats Heavens" of Zhao and one of the major antagonists of the series. Initially shown to be aloof and jovial, he soon reveals himself to be a top notch strategist on the battlefield, even strategizing and claiming the life of Wang Qi at the climactic battle on the Mayang plains between Zhao and Qin.

The Li Mu Army[edit]

Hai Yin[edit]

Hai Yin (海音, Kaine) is a Commander in Li Mu's Army as well as his most devote follower. She shares a n amicable bond with He Liao Diao despite the fact that they are enemies.

Qing She[edit]

Qing She (慶舎, Kei Sha) is a General and tactician in Li Mu's Army. Saved by Li Mu at a young age, Qing She soon became his vassal. He is considered one of the leading figures in Zhao's military. Like Lord Biao, he is an Instinctual Type General: with Li Mu comparing his strategies to cunning and ruthlessness of a spider. First appearing during the Coalition Invasion, he was tasked with defeating Lord Biao and his army, only to be interrupted by the interference of Xin. Later, he returns during the Anyang Campaign to assist in taking over the five hills in the region. After the first few days, he begins to bait Huan Yi into a trap, only to be fooled by Huan Yi instead and nearly escapes with his life. He is soon confronted by Xin and, having noticed his growth, is cut down. Before dying, he regrets not being able to repay his debt to Li Mu.

Jin Mao[edit]

Jin Mao (金毛, Kin Mou) is a General in Li Mu's Army who served as Qing She's deputy. He was killed by Cang Dan.

Fu Di[edit]

Fu Di (傅抵, Fu Tei) is a General in Li Mu's Army who aims to become one of Zhao's "Three Greats Heavens".

Jin Cheng Chang[edit]

Jin Cheng Chang (Shin Sei Jou) is a General in Li Mu's Army. He has devoted his life to serving Li Mu, serving as deputy General in his army. Despite always having a happy demeanor, he is actually a vicious and cruel man who enjoys watching his enemies crumble before him. His most distinguished feature is his lack of teeth. He was slain by Bajio following the Coalition's failure to seize Zui and their subsequent retreat from Yang Duan He's reinforcements.

Pang Nuan (龐煖, Hou Ken) is one of the "Three Greats Heavens" of Zhao.

Wan Ji[edit]

Wan Ji (万極, Man Goku) is a General of Zhao and leader of the Wan Ji Army. He was a survivor of the mass braves following the Battle of Changping, with the traumatic experience leading to a lifelong hatred for Qin. During the Coalition War, he was struck down by Xin, with the latter promising to prevent other tragedies like Changping from ever happening again.

State of Wei[edit]

Wu Qing[edit]

Wu Qing (呉慶, Go Kei) is a Great General of Wei who is one o the "Seven Fire Dragons of Wei". He was eventually cut in half by Lord Biao's glaive. After his death, his son Wu Feng Ming would later gain the title if Fire Dragon.

Lian Po[edit]

Lian Po (廉頗, Ren Pa) is a Great General. He was one one of Zhao's "Three Great Heavens". During his life he had done battle with many of Qin's Six Great Generals: particularly forming a strong bond with Wang Qi. After being stripped of his military command by the new king of Zhao, King Daoxiang, Lian Po rebelled and brought his lieutenants and other officers that survived the rebellion into Wei in exile. However when Qin and Zhao entered an alliance which caused Qin to invade Wei, Lian Po was asked by King Jingmin of Wei to command the entire Wei army against Qin. On the last day of the campaign Lian Po eventually did battle with Meng Ao. He manages to cut off Meng Ao's right arm, but is prevented from killing him by Xin. After Xin reveals that he recently killed Lun Hu, he attempts to attack the boy but is surprised as Xin manages to fend him off. He comes to realize that the era of warfare that he was at his peak has truly come to an end and orders his remaining soldiers to retreat. Following his defeat he was exiled once again, this time to the state of Chu, where he remained for the rest of his life.

Wu Feng Ming[edit]

Ju Xin[edit]

Ju Xin (劇辛, Geki Shin) is a Great General of Yan. 40 years before the start of the series, he and fellow Yan Great General Yue Yi managed to drive off the then super-state of Qi. In the present, Zhao launched an invasion against Yan with Ju Xin leading the Yan army against it. He was killed in a single slash by Pang Nuan.

Cheng Hui (成恢, Sei Kai) is a Great General of Han. Before becoming a General, he was said to have been incredible attractive. Due to his experimentations with numerous poisons, his once beautiful body had drastically changed: his skin turned pale, his veins became darker, and his eyes bloodshot. He was killed by Qin General Zhang Tang during the battle of Hangu Pass.

Wa Lin (媧燐, Ka Qin) is a Great General of Chu. Following the assassination of Lord Chunshen, she becomes Co-Prime Minister of Chu , serving along side Wa Lin.

Han Ming (汗明, Kan Mei) is a Great General of Chu. After cutting down Meng Tian for interfering in their dual, he was killed by Meng Wu by having his head crushed by his mace.

Lao Ai (嫪毐, Rou Ai) is the King of Ai and the Queen Dowager, Zhao Ji's, lover. He had a reputation of having an exceedingly large penis with his sexual exploits being well known. Having been smuggled into Qin by Lü Buwei, who brought him in after ceasing his own affair with Queen Dowager, he was taken into the royal harem to satisfy her needs. Soon the two developed genuine feelings for one another and had two children in secret. After Queen Dowager took over the city of Taiyuan and poured money into the area, turning it into a new state with him installed as the ruler of this city: having renamed it Ai. Soon some of his advisors suggest that, instead of giving half of their fortune to Qin, that they invade Xianyang and take over all of Qin. At first against the idea, he was eventually convinced, believing that doing so would allow Zhao Ji to heal from her tortured past. He mobilizes an army and heads for Xianyang. However, the coup d'état fails and he is captured and found guilty of treason. He says his goodbyes to Zhao Ji, apologizing for not doing more to move past her pain and promising to wait for her in the afterlife along with their children, who were to be executed as well. He dies after being torn apart by horses.

Li Piao[edit]

Li Piao (李漂, Ri Hyō) is Xin's childhood best friend and fellow war orphan. Like Xin, Piao also aims to become a general renowned throughout all of China. His appearance is identical to King Ying Zheng and he is offered a position in the Qin palace by Changwen Jun as Zheng's body double. He accepts the position, only to be mortally wounded fighting at the hands of an assassin hired by the Cheng Jiao Faction. He manages to find Xin and asks that he carry on both of their dreams of becoming generals before dying.

Qiang Xiang (羌象, Kyou Shou) is a member of the Chi You clan and the adoptive sister of Qiang Lei, Qiang Li, and Qiang Shi.

Guo Bei[edit]

Guo Bei (Kaku Bi) is 1000-man Commander of the Guo Bei Unit in the Qin Army. Following the successful capture of a siege tower, he acquaints himself with Xin. Unlike the other commanders he's met, Guo Being has much respect for Xin as they are both war orphans who claimed the ranks to get where they are. Later that night he was decapitated by Sun Hu along with several other 1000-man commanders. Due to his death, 700 members of his unit were then merged into the Fei Xin Unit.
