Mick Lauer
Mick Lauer (born December 10, 1980),[2] also known by his online pseudonym RicePirate, is a Taiwanese-American professional voice actor, internet personality, and animator. He is best known for his work in voice over, internet animations, as well as being an editor and co-star of the podcast “SleepyCast”.
Career[edit]
Animation[edit]
In 2010, Lauer began his animation career on NewGrounds[1] joining under the name "RicePirate[2]". His first rise to online recognition followed the release of a short kinetic typographical animation titled "Dot Dot Dot", which featured animated text accompanying the dramatic reading of a poorly written game review by a Newgrounds user.
His current venture is a passion project, ‘Blood Sun Vendetta’, an original motion-comic based in the ‘Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure’ universe.[3]
Voice Over[edit]
Lauer trained in voice acting under the indomitable Jay Snyder (Dan Green) at Edge Studio (NYC), and is currently represented by Dean Panaro Talent[4] (LA).
While he has voiced for hundreds of online and independent projects, his professional voice work includes (but is not limited to); League of Legends, World of Warcraft, Smite, Paladins, Sekiro, YuGiOh! Zexal, Dust: An Elysian Tale, and is currently voicing Percival 'Wheelie' Wheeler for LEGO City Adventures (TV Series) on Nickelodeon.
SleepyCabin[edit]
After moving to Philadelphia in 2015, Mick joined a number of other NewGrounds creators and became a member of their production team “SleepyCabin”, though their main creative collaboration would take form in a podcast, the “SleepyCast”. The other main members of the group being Will Stamper, Chris “Oney” O’Neill, Zach “Psychicpebbles” Hadel, Cory ‘Spazkid’, Jeff ‘JohnnyUtah’ and Niall Murray.
In late 2016, SleepyCabin disbanded, although occasional podcasts and streams have surfaced since.
Youtube[edit]
While Mick (RicePirate) is best known on Youtube for his animated shorts and parodies, he has collaborated with many dozens of other content creators on various projects.
Collaborators include — JonTron (Starcade, voicing various roles); OneyNG (OneyPlays, as a recurring guest); Markiplier (various live-action shorts); Jaboody Dubs (voice actor); TeamFourStar (voicing various roles); and numerous animators and content creators.
Personal life[edit]
Mick was born in Washington state, after which he and his family moved from the United States to Taipei, Taiwan when he was nine years old. He spent the next several years moving to various Asian countries before settling down in his hometown of Woodinville, Washington. He later moved to New York City to attend NYU, and continued to live there until 2013. In 2015 he and his spouse (Alison Moehnke) divorced, and Lauer moved to Philadelphia.
He is a graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, with three years of conservatory training from the Atlantic Theater Company, one year at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (London), a final year focusing on film & television performance with the StoneStreet Studio, training in improvisation at UCB (NYC), and voice over training at Edge Studio (NYC).
As of 2017, he lives and works in Burbank, California.
