The Australian Consulate-General in Chengdu represents the Commonwealth of Australia in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province in the People's Republic of China, and also has responsibilities for Chongqing, Yunnan and Guizhou provinces. With the first Consul-General appointed in May 2013, the Australian Consulate-General in Chengdu was signposted for creation in 2012 during the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and the People's Republic of China, with an expanded diplomatic presence in China also recommended in the Australian Government's 2012 Asian Century White Paper.[1] On 30 July 2013, former Foreign Minister Bob Carr officially opened the Consulate-General, located at 18 Dongyu St in Chengdu's Jinjiang District.[2]
