Digimon Adventure, an anime series produced by Toei Animation for the Digimon franchise, which is also a reboot of the original series, is centered on the Chosen Ones (選ばれし子供達, Erabareshi Kodomotachi), a group of children chosen to protect the Digital World. Each child is partnered with a Digimon and use a Digivice[lower-alpha 1] to help them Digivolve[lower-alpha 2] into stronger forms.

Tai is the leader of the DigiDestined and the star player on the school's soccer team.[7] His aggressive and impulsive personality often puts him in danger, but he learns that empathy and compassion are the keys to being a successful leader.[6][7] He is partnered with Agumon and holds the Crest of Courage (勇気の紋章, Yūki no monshō).[13][14] Tai passes on leadership to Davis during the events of Digimon Adventure 02 while attending middle school.[8] During the events of Digimon Adventure tri., Tai bonds with Daigo Nishijima and is inspired by the man to seek out a career in diplomacy. The Digimon Adventure 02 series epilogue depicts Tai and Agumon become diplomats for their respective worlds, with Tai having a son who is partnered to a Koromon.

Matt is T.K.'s older brother.[lower-alpha 3][18] He lives in Odaiba with his father after his parents divorced three years prior.[18][19] He takes caution in the Digital World, especially when it comes to T.K.'s safety,[20] and often clashes with Tai, due to the latter's recklessness.[18] He is partnered with Gabumon and holds the Crest of Friendship (友情の紋章, Yūjō no monshō).[21][22] In Digimon Adventure 02, Matt forms a band with his classmates called the Teen-age Wolves and provides lead vocals and bass.[23] In Digimon Adventure tri., he becomes the vocalist and bassist of Knife of Day after the Teen-age Wolves disbands. In the series' epilogue, Matt and Gabumon become astronauts. Matt marries Sora[24] and they have two children; a daughter with a Yokomon and a son with a Tsunomon.

Sora is Tai's best friend and was on the soccer team with him.[26] Despite being tomboyish, Sora takes caution in the Digital World and serves as the mother figure of the DigiDestined,[26] often acting as a mediator between Tai and Matt.[28] She is partnered with Biyomon and holds the Crest of Love (愛情の紋章, Aijō no monshō).[29][30] In Digimon Adventure 02, Sora takes up tennis and flower arranging, learning both from her mother. In the series' epilogue, Sora and Biyomon become fashion designers. Sora has married Matt[24] and they have two children; a daughter with a Yokomon and a son with a Tsunomon.

Izzy is a computer expert and enjoys researching the Internet.[31] His intellectual curiosity is strong, but sometimes, he becomes too absorbed to focus on his surroundings.[31] He politely defers to the rest of the DigiDestined.[31] He is partnered with Tentomon and holds the Crest of Knowledge (知識の紋章, Chishiki no monshō).[32][33] When he initially found out that he was adopted, he began to subconsciously distance himself from his parents, focusing more on his computer instead. However, they later come to accept each other as family.[34][35] In Digimon Adventure 02, Izzy continues to aid the new generation of DigiDestined by using his computer expertise to monitor the Digital World and alert them about any problems. In Digimon Adventure tri., Izzy works at a new company in the IT business with the base office of operations, creating a program for their partners to travel back and forth between every monitor and the outside world. In the series' epilogue, Izzy researches gateways to the Real and Digital Worlds with Sora's father and Joe's brother, Shu. He has a daughter with a Motimon.
Mimi Tachikawa (太刀川 ミミ, Tachikawa Mimi) Marika Kouno Palmon
The carrier of the Stone of Purity, with her partner being Palmon. A girl the same age as Koshiro. She acts like a princess, always putting her own interests first. She complains a lot, and causes trouble when she tries to leave the unknown world. When there's something that she has to do, she won't stop until it's done. Her grandfather is the chairman of an electric energy company.
Joe Kido (城戸 丈, Kido Jō) Takeshi Kusao Gomamon
The carrier of the Stone of Sincerity, with his partner being Gomamon. A boy a year older than Taichi. He's completely obsessed with studying no matter where he is, as his middle school exams are soon. As the eldest, he constantly tries to keep the group together.
Takeru "T.K." Takaishi (高石 タケル, Takaishi Takeru, "Takeru Takaishi") Megumi Han Patamon
Yamato's younger brother and the carrier of the Stone of Hope, with his partner being Patamon. Yamato's younger brother, though they live apart and have different last names because their parents are split up. He starts to have a strange intuition when the show begins.
Kari Kamiya (八神 ヒカリ, Yagami Hikari, "Hikari Yagami") Misaki Watada Gatomon
Taichi's younger sister and the carrier of the Stone of Light, with her partner being Tailmon. Taichi's younger sister. She acts and talks like she exists in a different world to everyone else, and senses Taichi's fight on the Internet.

Agumon is Tai's partner Digimon. He is simple-minded, but he always believes Tai has the best interests for the team and trusts him as a friend. His other forms are Botamon (ボタモン) (Baby), Koromon (コロモン) (In-training),[38] Greymon (グレイモン, Gureimon) (Champion),[39] MetalGreymon (メタルグレイモン, Metarugureimon) (Ultimate),[40] and WarGreymon (ウォーグレイモン, Wōgureimon) (Mega).[41] He can also DNA Digivolve into Omnimon (オメガモン, Omegamon) with MetalGarurumon. Agumon also has access to an alternate Mega form called Agumon (Bond of Bravery) (アグモン -勇気の絆-, Agumon -Yuki no Kizuna-), a Digivolution forged by the bond between Agumon and Tai.[42] Aside from normal Digivolutions, Agumon also has corrupted Digivolutions, such as SkullGreymon (スカルグレイモン, Sukarugureimon) MetalGreymon (Virus) (メタルグレイモン (ウィルス種), Metarugureimon (Wirusu Shu)) in the original series. In the reboot series, Agumon gains a corrupted form in a partially formed Machinedramon (ムゲンドラモン, Mugendramon) and an alternate Mega form called BlitzGreymon.
Gabumon (ガブモン)[43] Mayumi Yamaguchi[9] Kirk Thornton
Gabumon is a reptile Digimon wearing a wolf pelt and Matt's partner. He has the ability to digivolve into wolf-type forms with ice-based attacks. He is shy and very loyal to Matt. While Gabumon reasons with him whenever he falls too far, he still supports and trusts Matt with any decision he makes. His other forms are Punimon (プニモン) (Baby), Tsunomon (ツノモン) (In-training),[44] Garurumon (ガルルモン) (Champion),[45] WereGarurumon (ワーガルルモン, Wāgarurumon) (Ultimate),[46] and MetalGarurumon (メタルガルルモン, Metarugarurumon) (Mega). He can also DNA Digivolve with WarGreymon into Omnimon. Gabumon also has access to an alternate Mega form called Gabumon (Bond of Friendship) (ガブモン -友情の絆-, Gabumon -Yujo no Kizuna-), a Digivolution forged by the bond between Gabumon and Matt.[47]

Biyomon is Sora's partner Digimon. She has the ability to digivolve into bird-type forms with flame-based attacks. She is expressive about her feelings and is affectionate towards Sora. She helps Sora open up to her mother and mends their relationship. Her other forms are Nyokimon (ニョキモン) (Baby), Birdramon (バードラモン, Bādoramon) (Champion),[50] Garudamon (ガルダモン) (Ultimate),[51] and Phoenixmon (ホウオウモン, Hōōmon) (Mega). In Digimon All-Star Rumble, Biyomon is able to become Examon (エグザモン).

Tentomon is a ladybug-like insect Digimon and Izzy's partner. He speaks in a Kansai dialect. He has the ability to digivolve into insect-type forms with electric-based attacks. He is highly intelligent, curious, and polite. Although he admires and is fascinated by Izzy's curiosity, he cannot understand it and is baffled by Izzy preferring his laptop over socializing with his friends. Tentomon occasionally becomes annoyed when Izzy becomes sidetracked by his curiosity.
Palmon (パルモン, Parumon) Shihomi Mizowaki
Mimi's partner Digimon. A green lizard-plant hybrid. She loves Mimi, and declares herself as her bodyguard.
Gomamon (ゴマモン) Junko Takeuchi
Joe's partner Digimon. A seal with purple markings and a red mohawk. He helps his partner with whatever he attempts, one way or another.
Patamon (パタモン) Miwa Matsumoto
Takeru's partner Digimon. A mammal with wing-like ears. Like Agumon, he was involved in a battle in ancient times in his evolved form.
Gatomon (テイルモン, Teirumon, "Tailmon") Mie Sonozaki
Hikari's partner Digimon. A white cat with a ring on her tail. Unlike the other Digimon, her default form is at the Champion level. She influences Taichi and the others in battle, though only indirectly, as her location is a mystery.

A main antagonist of the series, described as an ultimate weapon born of darkness. Joining the battle against the armies of the Celestial Digimon in his unsealed form as ZeedMilleniummon, he was defeated by the previous incarnations of the Digimon partners of the DigiDestined with crystallized fragments of his remains littering the Eternal Continent of the Digital World with one holding his soul as Moon=Millenniummon. Moon=Millenniummon seeks to restore his body using data from the human world while granting his followers the ability to Digivolve.

The first enemy of the Chosen Ones. He isa commander of Moon=Millenniummon’s army who is an embodiment of Patamon’s dark side that came into being during the latter’s imprisonment in dark miasma as Angemon and sought to fully corrupt his counterpart. But when the DigiDestined oppose him, Devimon uses Moon=Milleniummon’s power to digivolve himself into NeoDevimon and then the mindless DanDevimon before being destroyed by a partially complete WarGreymon. But Devimon endured his physical demise due to his connection Angemon, being given a temporarily new body by Sakkakumon, Moon=Millenniummon’s servant, who had kidnapped Tai, Matt, Izzy and T.K. and forced them to fight copies of their defeated opponents. But Patamon absorbs Devimon to awaken his ability to become MagnaAngemon, though Devimon’s consciousness lingers within him.
