Rosberg holding the 2016 F1 World Drivers' Championship trophy

Nico Rosberg is a German-Finnish former racing driver who won one Formula One world championship. He entered Formula One in 2006 with the Williams team. He spent four seasons with the British team before moving to Mercedes in 2010.[1] Rosberg spent the next three seasons partnered with seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, before being joined by former karting friend and eventual seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton in 2013. Rosberg finished runner-up to Hamilton for the championship in 2014 and 2015 respectively, before eventually beating his teammate in 2016, which marked a three-year period in which the two drivers dominated the sport. The pairs relationship however deteriorated, and led to confrontations on and off the track.[2] Their rivalry has been compared at times to that of the Prost–Senna rivalry. Rosberg announced his retirement from motor racing five days after clinching the title.

Rosberg achieved his first victory in Formula One at the 2012 Chinese Grand Prix on 15 April.[3] He won a further two races in 2013, before the regulation changes enabled him to race with a more competitive car. During his two years as runner-up, he won five and six races respectively, before clinching his one and only Formula One world championship with nine victories, and in doing so became the second son of a former world champion to win the title since Damon Hill replicated his father Graham Hill in 1996.[4] His final win in Formula One came at the 2016 Japanese Grand Prix. In all, Rosberg won 23 Grand Prix at seventeen different circuits.

All 23 of Rosberg's victories were with Mercedes. He was most successful at Monaco, where he won three times during his career, all of which were consecutively. His largest margin of victory was 0:37.776 at the 2016 Chinese Grand Prix, while the narrowest margin was at the 2016 Singapore Grand Prix, where he beat Daniel Ricciardo by 0:00.488.
