List of Formula One pole positions by Michael Schumacher

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Schumacher in 2005

Michael Schumacher is a German former racing driver and joint-record seven-time Formula One World Champion who scored a total of 68 pole positions in his Formula One career and previously held the record for the most pole positions in Formula One history for eleven years; he is currently placed second in the all-time list of Formula One polesitters. Schumacher scored his first pole position at the 1994 Monaco Grand Prix by outqualifying Mika Häkkinen by almost an entire second. He later converted pole position to a Grand Prix victory, which turned out to be his fourth victory at the fourth race of the season. He broke Ayrton Senna's record for the most pole positions at the 2006 San Marino Grand Prix by taking his 66th pole when he outqualified Jenson Button by 0.193 seconds.[1][lower-alpha 1] However, Schumacher scored his 68th and final pole position just a few months later at Magny-Cours when he outqualified then-teammate Felipe Massa by just 0.017 seconds.[3]

In all, Schumacher converted 40 of his 68 pole positions into race victories, among them his maiden pole in Monaco 1994. He achieved his most pole positions with Ferrari by scoring 58 poles, and the remaining 10 with Benetton. He was most successful at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan by scoring eight pole positions to become the joint-record holder for scoring the most pole positions at a single circuit alongside fellow World Champions Ayrton Senna and Lewis Hamilton.[4] His largest pole margin was at the 1999 Malaysian Grand Prix, where he outqualified then-teammate Eddie Irvine by 0.946 seconds. The Grand Prix was also notable for being Schumacher's comeback race after being ruled out of the sport for several months due to a heavy crash at Silverstone, where he sustained a broken leg.[5] His smallest pole margin was at the 1995 San Marino Grand Prix when he outqualified Gerhard Berger by only 0.008 seconds.
