List of Longest Independently Published Novels[edit]

This is a list of novels with over 1.3 million words published through a self-publisher. Traditionally, In Search of Lost Time (French: À la recherche du temps perdu), first translated into English as Remembrance of Things Past, and sometimes referred to in French as La Recherche (The Search), is a novel in seven volumes by French author Marcel Proust. This early 20th-century work is his most prominent, known both for its length and its theme of involuntary memory. Yet it has been noted by Guinness World Records that this is only held by this man due to his legacy. Yet we ought to move beyond this somber thinking in the 21st century, where publishing has changed, with the times, why should newly written works not be noted when there extraordinary feats of mystery and industries? So, 10,000 pages in 8 inches by 11 is 2,550,000 words to around 3 million.

  • Character count is the most acceptable estimate of the total number of spaces yet it has been noted by Guinness that they have to know to understand what consideration of what characters are or how to count them as this time period, or what makes a novel to hold to pass the record holder, yet it was said to be written characters, and punctuation; Guinness World Records uses this criterion, yet you also need to be notable. It is more than just hitting nothing words that make no sense at all. Yet it will still be listed here for a work of doing the above and that is making characters on a page that meets the needs of the record, yet has no story, yet also on this list will be stories that do. Thus the record is not something a writer can hold due to Guinness's misplacement/ misinterpretations of documentation of what Proust achieved. Character count is the best estimate of the total number of spaces, written characters, and punctuation; Guinness World Records uses this criterion.[1] Word Counter Net was also a tool to those needing to know how to count characters.
  • Word count (omitting punctuation) is another method. Using computer software to count words is the current preferred method for academia and publications.[2] However it is not very meaningful when comparing different languages, for instance, because some languages use more words to express a given idea than others. A rough way to count words in an English language text is to assume that a standard formatted page with 12 pt Courier font / or Times New Roman and double-spaced lines is 250 words.[3]
  • Due to configuration, the page count will depend on the book size and has to be printed softcover/ paperback/ hardcover book with an online store bookmaker of the modern times like Barnes and Noble of 2019 and up, all with the same ISBNs, all with as on series, "excluding ebooks at this time, and fanfictions websites" has to be and all the same writer, book size, for the most part, listed would be A5 formatting, the font is at 12, the style is 0.7 indenting and margins, and the formatting has all been listed here as the same, and there can not be illustrations or blank pages counted, in the independently published work the author has to be the only one making the project from start to end to show endeavor of achievements and thus cannot be considered a reliable measure of length, despite it being the easiest physical indicator of length to determine. I would like to say that there is a record for Thickest Novel and that is by Spin Thicknesses as one.
  • For the purposes of this list, the word count is immaculate. Page count is a key indicator of length; for totality, the page size will be included. Sorry to say at this time making this page that English is the only noted works listed, Chinese. East Asian bibliographies therefore generally give only the character count without attempting any word count. Thus not listed here. English adopted by the translator would be used if needed.

Definitions[edit]

What measures as a novel is another variable. For the purposes of the list, a "novel" is defined as a single work in print or Guinness world records do not count electronic prints, it has to be in book print, a form that has been published through a mainstream publisher and that has acquired publishing rights from authors. A "single work" possesses works thought of as one novel by the author but published in multiple volumes yet would as one series under the same name with the volumes having subtitles, for reasons of convenience and the way Marcel Proust was listed for his masterpiece.

Included are self-published, printed-on-demand, vanity works, unpublished novels like Henry Darger's, novel sequences like the Chronicles of Barsetshire, novel cycles such as those set in the James Bond universe, and record- seizing jokes written solely for the title of the longest work are noted here yet should not be called literature also noted in the listings of attempt grappling. Regardless noted in that statement is the fact that works are subjective, and Prost was rattling on with run-on and endless, ranting of nothingness for pages and was incorrectly babbling for the whole work, masterpieces are subjectively loose.

  • Henry Joseph Darger Jr. (/ˈdɑːrɡər/; April 12, 1892 – April 13, 1973) was an American writer, novelist and artist who worked as a hospital custodian in Chicago, Illinois.[4] He has become famous for his posthumously discovered 15,145-page fantasy novel manuscript called The Story of the Vivian Girls, in What Is Known as the Realms of the Unreal, of the Glandeco-Angelinian War Storm, Caused by the Child Slave Rebellion, along with several hundred drawings and watercolor illustrations for the story.[5]
  • Chronicles of Barsetshire The visual subject matter of his work ranges from idyllic scenes in Edwardian interiors and tranquil flowered landscapes populated by children and fantastic creatures, to scenes of horrific terror and carnage depicting young children being tortured and massacred.[6]:106 Much of his artwork is mixed media with collage elements. Darger's artwork has become one of the most celebrated examples of outsider art.
  • The Chronicles of Barsetshire is a series of six novels by English author Anthony Trollope, published between 1855 and 1867. They are set in the fictional English county of Barsetshire and its cathedral town of Barchester.[7] The novels concern the dealings of the clergy and the gentry, and the political, amatory, and social maneuverings that go on among them.[8]
  • Marienbad My Loveby Mark Leach weighs 65 pounds, As of Feb. 1, 2013, "Marienbad My Love" consisted of 17 volumes, thus each book is 150,000 words times the page count. the true word count after being reviewed by the experts making this would say words are 2,550,000. In 2008 next 19 volumes yet Guinness World Records would say they need to all be published at the same time. (not in print as of 2022) were published. You can only get this in PDF now and has been dropped from Amazon publishing. Word count was estimated as reviewed by the expert, as 2,850,000, by page count at the formatting of 8 inches by 11, estimated to be characters (including spaces) 30,872,885 and 17,868 pages. No story books, English --> just founts, saying "blah": and words of random. self-published as an eBook and print-on-demand in June 2022, the publishing rights to the novel were KDP or Amazon.
