MotorWeek started from 1981 and is still continuing today. MotorWeeks past and current episodes. MotorWeek used to use U-Matic, Betacam, Type C videotape and Quadruplex videotape. They post new and old clips and episodes on their YouTube channel. MotorWeek originally had the year on their program on it due to a magazine called MotorWeek Magazine. They also have a podcast talking about current and future cars. After 6 season of using the Studio, MotorWeek removed the studio format and still uses the outdoors to this day.

Unaired Pilot (1980)

The unaired pilot comparing the Chevrolet Citation with the Ford Fairmont is notably different than the future segments. The intro is different than Don Barto's composed piece. The intro was composed by Mark Roumelis. It is different than his 1987 piece. He would later take over for composing music again in 1987, and his piece is still heard today. The Motorshop segment featured Craig Singhaus, which was later renamed to Goss' Garage with Pat Goss. What's New On Wheels was also first seen. This segment would later be continued. Joyce Braga was the Road Test Drive, later becoming the presenter for What's New On Wheels. The unaired pilot was shot in 1980.

Chrysler will introduce the Ramage in 1982. This week's new product is a an Osram torch designed for your car.

Joyce shows us spy photographs of GM's "A" car which will be launched as the Buick Century, Chevrolet Celebrity, Pontiac 6000 and Oldsmobile Sierra. 4 cylinder, V6 and V8 Olds diesel engines will be available. Toyota to introduce the Supra. This week's new product is from the Allsafe Battery Clamp company - a kit to safely repair worn battery cables.

What's New On Wheels: John tells us that the NHTA is using cadavers on certain vehicle tests rather than test dummies. Joyce introduces the new F-body Camaro and Firebird, showing us spy photos. Both cars will come with four cylinder engines as standard and will weigh 650lb less than previous models. Pontiac's TA will have an uprated 5 litre V8 engine. 107	MotorWeek reviews the Oldsmobile 98 Regency diesel and Volkswagen Scirocco. Front Wheel Drive - John discusses the differences between FWD and RWD, and driving techniques. Cars in Large Supply - John reports on the high stock levels in the American car supply chain.	Pat shows how to prepare your car for a long highway drive.	John reports that Honda is recalling approximately 940,000 1973-1979 cars which may require underbody repairs due to salt corrosion. This is a $20 million program. Joyce shows us the new Ford Durango. GM's S-car will debut in Europe as an Opel, likely with a 1 litre engine, and approximately the size as a Honda Civic. 1119	10th Anniversary Special Review Episode Segments: Looking Back: First roadtest; Ford Escord, Fiat Strada American industry found its feet with the 1982 V8 Mustang and Camaro - this was Motorweek's first visit to a race track. The VW Rabbit GTi was released. Japanese cars entered the market with the Honda Civic and Accord. Chrysler introduced the "K" car. Audi's Quattro and 5000 led the 80ies. Ford's Taurus was a pleasant surprise and "out-aero'd" everyone! Motorweek upgraded from a parking lot and a stop watch to a drag strip, race track and computer timing. Chrysler's minivan entered the market. Japanese defined the sub-compact market with the 323 and Corolla, and launched the first Japanese luxury car with the Accura Legend. Ford's Escort and Chevrolet Cavalier continued to improve. The DeLorean was the first exotic car reviewed. Motorweek reviewed it's first Ferrari and Maserati and went to Italy to review the F40. Corvette made Motorweek's test drivers very happy! The Accura NSX scared everyone! Was there anything the Japanese couldn't build?! The Mazda Miata and Lexus LS400 showed the Japanese were upping their game. The Mercor XR4ti sadly didn't last long. The US London Taxi went out of business. Peugeot and Sterling left the US market. The 90ies started with the Saturn and Cadillac STS and American-Japanese hybrids like the Ford Probe. What do Motorweek Staffers drive? They're checked over, reviewed, drive-up footage filmed, then performance tested. Each test is repeated numerous times and in-car computers are used for accuracy. Voice overs are recorded, then the video editors put it all together. Finally, the completed program is sent via satellite to over 300 stations. New to the fleet is a 1992 Chevrolet Suburban. Leaving the fleet is the Toyota Tercel Coupe. After 20,000 miles the only problem was a loose connection in the dome light. It's the most trouble free car ever tested. Overall, it achieved 35.7 mpg with a running cost of 4.1 cents per mile. It would have benefited from a 5th gear, but was very highly regarded by the Motorweek drivers. Corvette made Motorweek's test drivers very happy! The Accura NSX scared everyone! Was there anything the Japanese couldn't build?! The Mazda Miata and Lexus LS400 showed the Japanese were upping their game. The Mercor XR4ti sadly didn't last long. The US London Taxi went out of business. Peugeot and Sterling left the US market. The 90ies started with the Saturn and Cadillac STS and American-Japanese hybrids like the Ford Probe. What do Motorweek Staffers drive? They're checked over, reviewed, drive-up footage filmed, then performance tested. Each test is repeated numerous times and in-car computers are used for accuracy. Voice overs are recorded, then the video editors put it all together. Finally, the completed program is sent via satellite to over 300 stations. Retro Review Livestream

MotorWeek did a Retro Review Marathon. They started on April 2, 2020 with Season 4, and continues on every thursday/sunday. MotorWeek staff and vets popped in for the viewers to ask questions about the show. An updated list was posted on the MotorWeek YouTube channel following the demand for more livestreams.
