Nostalgia Critic began the 2011 year with "Sequel Month", in which the Critic reviews sequels to films he already covered that have almost exclusively negative responses from film critics, film buffs and himself. The 162nd episode is the first to be produced in HD, which would become the basis for later episodes.

145"The NeverEnding Story III: Return to Fantasia"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerJanuary 4, 2011 (2011-01-04)

The Critic reviews The NeverEnding Story III: Return to Fantasia (1994) to begin Sequel Month. The Critic finds it even worse than its predecessor, citing its dumbed-down plot, over-the-top character portrayals, particularly the Rock Biter and Falkor, numerous continuity errors and the incompetence of its main character, Bastian. He also hates how the antagonists of this story are reduced to schoolyard bullies, although he does give Jack Black, who plays the gang leader, credit for looking like the only actor "who's having fun" performing in this film in spite of its poor script. Special criticism is reserved for Rock Biter singing "Born to Be Wild", particularly as it replaces the regular credits song, causing the Critic to graphically destroy the movie's DVD with a crowbar upon learning the latter fact. The film is placed at #7 on Doug's "Top 11 Best Nostalgia Critic Reviews".

Real Thoughts: Both Doug and Rob consider this film to be The Room of family films and would watch this more than the second NeverEnding Story film because they were amazed by how bizarrely bad this movie was.

Channel Awesome tag: Julie Cox as the Childlike Empress: "We must not give in to the Nasty."
146"Ferngully 2: The Magical Rescue"Doug WalkerDoug WalkerJanuary 11, 2011 (2011-01-11)

The Critic reviews FernGully 2: The Magical Rescue (1998). Though he likes the premise of exploring the temptations of the human world, he is not impressed by the weak story, sloppy animation and underdeveloped characters, but considers it a harmless (albeit pointless) film. He also questions whether or not the original film was even popular enough to spawn a sequel. Special criticism is reserved for the heroes' enjoyment of the human world constantly distracting them from their goal of saving the baby animals.

Channel Awesome tag: Mother Kangaroo (slowed down): "MY BAAAAAABYYYYYY!"
147"The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy To The Rescue"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerJanuary 18, 2011 (2011-01-18)

The Critic reviews The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue (1998). As an avid fan of the original animated film he is angered by the fact that the follow-up film centers on a background character while virtually ignoring Mrs. Brisby, the main character from the previous film. He also finds the animation down-graded, and is particularly critical of the main character, Timmy, getting relentlessly touted and praised when there is nothing remarkable about him, and Nicodemus's self-fulfilling prophecy. Special criticism is reserved for the idiotic plot twist where Timmy's brother Martin turns out to be the villain in the climax, while at the same time complimenting Eric Idle's voicework as the corrupt Martin as "the only thing remotely entertaining" about the film. In the end, he calls upon the Death Star to destroy the DVD.

Real Thoughts:

Channel Awesome tag: Eric Idle as Martin (singing): "If you just say yes!"
148"Care Bears II: A New Generation"Doug Walker, Bennett White (cameo appearance)Doug Walker & Rob WalkerJanuary 25, 2011 (2011-01-25)

The Critic concludes Sequel Month by reviewing Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation (1986). He concludes that the first film is actually decent compared to the sequel, criticizing the lack of character development and consistency of events, particularly the retconning of the characters' already-established origins. He does, however, find some humor in the performance of the villain Darkheart, particularly certain speech patterns and the general campiness of the character.

Real Thoughts:

Channel Awesome tag: Hadley Kay as Darkheart: "Time for a game of disappearing bears..."
149"Dungeons & Dragons"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerFebruary 1, 2011 (2011-02-01)

The Critic reviews Dungeons & Dragons (2000). He makes fun of the film for its cartoonish plot, confusing ending, constant rising shots, lackluster CGI, Bruce Payne's dialogue and his character's unexplained blue lipstick, Marlon Wayans' character being annoying, blantant rip-offs of scenes from Indiana Jones, and poor acting (particularly the over the top performance of Jeremy Irons and the under-acting of Thora Birch). However, he finds the film enjoyable due to being so badly executed, and praises Marlon Wayans' character being killed in the film, calling it "incredibly satisfying" due to him being the most annoying character in the film.

Real Thoughts: Doug and Rob reveal to like the movie with Doug calling the film one of his favorite bad movies.

Channel Awesome tag: Zoe McLellan as Marina: "I'm NOT!"
150"Top 11 Dumbest Spider-Man Moments"Doug WalkerDoug WalkerFebruary 8, 2011 (2011-02-08)

The Critic lists some of the dumbest moments from the Spider-Man film series:

  • 11. The overuse of American flags (The first movie is excused because of the reactions of the post-9/11 people)
  • 10. The pointless characters
  • 9. The performance of the extras in Spider-Man 2 (2004)
  • 8. The special effects of Spider-Man (2002)
  • 7. Venom's lack of screen time in Spider-Man 3 (2007)
  • 6. The "cocktease" romance between Peter Parker and Mary Jane
  • 5. Doctor Octopus' robotic arms
  • 4. The dialogue from Spider-Man
  • 3. "Emo Peter" from Spider-Man 3
  • 2. Willem Dafoe's over-the-top performance as the Green Goblin (Despite saying he has fun watching him)
  • 1. The dance scene in Spider-Man 3

Channel Awesome tag: William Dafoe as the Green Goblin: "Finish it! Finish it!" Rosemary Harris as May Parker: "From evil!"

151"The Lost World: Jurassic Park"Doug Walker, Rob Walker (cameo appearance)Doug Walker & Rob WalkerFebruary 15, 2011 (2011-02-15)

The Critic reviews The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997). He considers it to be a disappointing follow-up to its predecessor, with a forced story filled with plot holes, annoying incompetent characters, and the fact that the "heroes" cause the problems in the film. He also mocks Jeff Goldblum's acting, with help from his brother Rob. Special criticism is reserved for a scene where a raptor falls for an attack by turning its head and ends up getting kicked by a girl named Kelly when she says "Hey, you!", which he finds stupid because Velociraptors are supposed to have high intelligence.

Real Thoughts: Doug and Rob both consider the film the worst of the series as they both hate making Ian Malcolm the star of the movie, the acting of Vince Vaughn, and the ending feeling like a self-satire.

Channel Awesome tag: Jeff Goldblum as Ian Malcolm (from the first movie): "That's... that's chaos theory."
152"Return of the Nostalgic Commercials"
"We'll Be Right Back..."
Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerFebruary 22, 2011 (2011-02-22)

The Critic looks at more commercials. In particular, he comments on hotlines aimed at children, creepy-looking advertising techniques, toys and games that seem to promote cruelty, and suggestive-sounding product names.

Commercials Reviewed: Barbie Convertible, He-Man Hotline, Bubble Thing, Puppet Hotline, After Burner, Skip Stik, Dino-Riders, Spring Bunny Hotline, Cocoa Pebbles, Smooshees, Tootsie Pops, Do the Arches, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (USA & JPN), Grape Escape, Guess Who?, Burger King Save the Animals Trading Cards, Corn Pops, Fun Fruit, Song of the South, Cabbage Patch Kids Twins, Wuzzles, Nerf Battle Storm, ATAX, You and Your Johnson, Wunder Boner

Special criticism is reserved for the infamous Wunder Boner commercial due to the suggestive sounding innuendo of the product.

The video, along with "After These Messages" and "!", was listed at #5 on the retrospective "Top 11 Best Nostalgia Critic Episodes".

Note: This is the debut of one of the Critic's famous jokes, "Fucking Bubbles!" It was placed at #7 on Doug's "Top 11 Favorite Nostalgia Critic Jokes".

Channel Awesome tag: Fisherman: "My wife would like that."
153"Inspector Gadget"Doug Walker, Bhargav Dronamraju (cameo appearance)Doug Walker & Rob WalkerMarch 1, 2011 (2011-03-01)

The Critic reviews Inspector Gadget (1999). He criticizes its lack of faithfulness to the cartoon, the casting and acting (particularly of Matthew Broderick as Gadget & Rupert Everett as Dr. Claw), excessive ineffective comedy - including many fourth wall jokes - that the Critic labels "desperate attempts for laughs", and editing. The only positive element he notes is the movie's version of the show's theme song. Special criticism is reserved for the fact that Dr. Claw is seen throughout the movie while he wasn't seen in the show, as well as film's overuse of sound effects.

Doug later put it at #6 on his "Worst Movies Nostalgia Critic's Reviewed" list.

Real Thoughts: Doug and Rob state while they thought the cartoon was nothing spectacular, they find the movie a terrible attempt to cash in at people's nostalgia and find absolutely nothing faithful to the show. They also criticize Broderick's acting in general (with Doug stating his only decent performance was in Ferris Bueller's Day Off) and find Everett incredibly miscast.

Channel Awesome tag: D.L. Hughley as the Gadgetmobile: "It's a Disney movie!"
154"Old Vs. New: The Karate Kid Vs. Karate Kid"Doug WalkerDoug WalkerMarch 8, 2011 (2011-03-08)

The Critic compares the 1984 and 2010 "Karate Kid" films:

  • Best Karate Kid: Daniel "San" LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) While he praises both actors for each doing an equally good job with their performances, he feels that Daniel's older age makes him more relatable.
  • Best Teacher: Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) While he praises Mr. Miyagi as a confident and wise character, he feels that Mr. Han had more dimension to his character.
  • Best Villains: Cheng (aka Crazy Asian Kid) (Zhenwei Wang) While he enjoys the villains from the original for being wacky and over-the-top, he feels that their goofy moments completely contrast with their characters. He praises the villains from the remake being more threatening and seriously taken.
  • Best Support: Danny's Mama (Randee Heller) Seeing how both the mother and the girlfriend are the only supportive characters in both films, he decides to choose between them instead, feeling that both are better handled in the original, with the mother being more supportive than in the remake, as well as the girlfriend being a stronger character in the original.
  • Best Story: 2010 Remake While he praises the story from the original for having more realistic moments, he criticizes the goofy, unrealistic moments that don't blend in with those moments, as well as the lack of the balance message the movie was trying to give. He praises the story from the remake having a focused tone and more of the balance message being shown.

The remake wins over the original: 3-2.

Channel Awesome tag: The Critic (singing): "Mercy's A Penis!"

155"The Langoliers"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerMarch 15, 2011 (2011-03-15)

The Critic reviews The Langoliers (1995). Despite enjoying some of the film's over-the-top performances (particularly of Bronson Pinchot and Dean Stockwell) and suspenseful plot and admits that the other actors give decent performances, he criticizes the payoff, special effects, and clichéd characters that constantly seem to be in all of Stephen King's stories.

Channel Awesome tag: Bronson Pinchot as Craig Toomey: "Scaring the little GIRL!? LADY!"
156"Airborne"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerMarch 22, 2011 (2011-03-22)

The Critic reviews Airborne (1993). Though he does enjoy the performances of some of the supporting cast, particularly that of Jack Black, he criticizes the film's blandness, the performance of the main characters (especially the behavior of Seth Green's character), Shane McDermott's character's obsession with surfing and hypocritical pacifist attitude that he finds reminiscent of many Disney princes such as Aladdin, the overly long climax, and over-usage of clichés that cause it to resemble '90s commercials.

Channel Awesome tag: Brittney Powell as Nikki: "You're a poet."

Shane McDermott as Mitchell: "Nah, I just know what I like."
157"Baby Geniuses"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerMarch 29, 2011 (2011-03-29)

The Critic reviews Baby Geniuses (1999). This review was filmed on location at Animarathon on Bowling Green State University, with the Critic wandering around the convention building while doing a film noir narration about the movie. He criticizes the ridiculous plot, wide angle shots, recurring jokes, gimmicky attempts to appeal to older audiences, and acting. Special criticism is reserved for the special effects, particularly the animatronic costumes, which he finds nightmarish, and the premise that babies are born with super intelligence but lose it as they grow older, which the Critic finds completely stupid. He is also disgusted that Bob Clark was the director, given that he also directed A Christmas Story, which the Critic considered earlier to be the greatest Christmas film.

Doug later put the film at #7 on his "Worst Movies Nostalgia Critic's Reviewed" list.

Channel Awesome tag: A baby animatronic: "Baby wanna hug!" (someone screams)
158"Raiders of the Story Arc - X-Men The Animated Series"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerApril 5, 2011 (2011-04-05)

The Critic reviews the first two episodes of the X-Men animated series. Despite some silly moments, he praises the action, characters and how the first two episodes deliver backstory and premise, and ultimately considers the show to hold up.

Channel Awesome tag: Norm Spencer as Cyclops: "Of course... not!"
159"The Magic Voyage"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerApril 12, 2011 (2011-04-12)

The Critic reviews The Magic Voyage (1992). Hating both the English dubbed and original German versions, he criticizes the lazy animation style, obnoxious characters, overabundance of dialogue, the fairy-tale plot, misconstruing of real-life historical events on which the premise was based, and sub-par dubbing, particularly of Dom DeLuise as Christopher Columbus. Special criticism is reserved for the complete lack of any quiet or still moments in the film and a scene where Christopher Columbus pulls a spyglass out of his groin.

Channel Awesome tag: Beavis: "Boi-oi-oi-oi-oi-oing!" (laughs)
160"Double Team"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerApril 19, 2011 (2011-04-19)

The Critic reviews Double Team (1997). He criticizes the bizarre idea of a team-up between Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dennis Rodman, outdated clichés, Rodman's basketball puns and lack of screen time, Van Damme's acting, and some plot holes. However, he highly praises the last major action scene in the movie, considering the explosive climax and Mickey Rourke's death scene (which involves Rourke setting off a mine field inside a coliseum while a tiger charges at him, and Van Damme, Rodman, and Paul Freeman escaping the explosion by shielding themselves with a Coke machine), to be the "best death evah!".

Channel Awesome tag: Jean-Claude Van Damme as Jack Paul Quinn: "Bank account numbers."
161"Top 11 Dumbasses in Distress"Doug WalkerDoug WalkerApril 26, 2011 (2011-04-26)

The Critic lists the top 11 dumbest characters in distressed situations:

Note: In the original video, Willie used to be on #9 (along with Short Round) and Jubilee used to be at #5, but in the Temple of Doom review he changed the list and swapped their places (along with removing Short Round from the list).

Channel Awesome tag: Lennie Weinrib as Scrappy: "Puppy Power!"

162"Jaws: The Revenge"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerMay 3, 2011 (2011-05-03)

The Critic reviews Jaws: The Revenge (1987). He considers the film the worst entry of the Jaws films, and criticizes the crazy plot, uninteresting characters, several mistakes, the fake-looking shark, and large amounts of filler. Special criticism is reserved for the poor execution of the revenge plot (or lack thereof), and the scene where the shark roars.

Channel Awesome tag: Lance Guest as Michael Brody: "JAAAAAA..."
163"Gordy"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerMay 10, 2011 (2011-05-10)

The Critic reviews Gordy (1995). He criticizes the lack of dialogue and screentime for Gordy despite the film being centered around the talking pig, the rehashed plot formula of a talking animal becoming world famous, some awkward moments, and is baffled that this film was released first when it is essentially a rip-off of Babe, which was released the same year to more critical acclaim. In the end, he notes that it doesn't rip of Babe too much and points out that the only "good" part is a music video for the rap song "Pig Power in the House" by Tag Team that appears in the movie.

Channel Awesome tag: James Donadio as Gilbert Sipes: "Go play your banjo, Goober."
164"The OTHER Animated Titanic"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerMay 17, 2011 (2011-05-17)

The Critic reviews The Legend of the Titanic (1999). Though he considers the animation to be superior, he considers the film worse than the previously reviewed 2000 animated Titanic film, calling it "disgustingly insulting" for turning the shipwreck into a parable about whaling and establishing that everyone onboard the ship survived the sinking. Special criticism is reserved for the numerous random and odd characters and plot elements in the film, such as talking dolphins and an "octopus with a dog face" throwing the iceberg that destroys the Titanic.

At the end, he finds out that there is a spin-off film, Tentacolino, and shouts "No!" in the style of Darth Vader from Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Doug later said in his "Top 11 Best Nostalgia Critic Reviews" video (in which this review is placed at #6) that he would not review Tentacolino because he does not think the review would be as good as the reviews of the two animated Titanic movies. However, Doug changed his mind and reviewed it in September 2016.

Channel Awesome tag: Anna Mazotti as Ronnie: "There's one thing I'm not, and that's a racist."
165"Revenge of the Commercials"
"! (Exclamation Point)"
Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerMay 24, 2011 (2011-05-24)

This is the Critic's third nostalgic commercial compilation. Generally, he comments on advertising techniques that appear false, nonsensical or confusing. Special criticism is used for the "Slim Suit" and attacks the Light Speeders for their extreme difficulty. The video, along with "After These Messages" and "We'll Be Right Back", was listed at #5 on the retrospective "Top 11 Best Nostalgia Critic Episodes".

Commercials Reviewed: E.T. Board Game, Cabbage Patch Kids, Grape-Nuts, Hanes, Kool-Aid Koolers, Zack the Lego maniac, Ghostbusters Toys, Lite-Brite, Golden Crisp, Pop-Tarts, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Toys, Do the Barbie, Hot Wheels Light Speeders, Transformers, Teddy Ruxpin, AlphaBits, Squeeze it, Transformers, JDRF, Slim Suit

Channel Awesome tag: Ernie Hudson as Winston: "That's a big Twinkie!"
166"Once Upon a Forest"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerMay 31, 2011 (2011-05-31)

The Critic reviews Once Upon a Forest (1993). He criticizes the predictable environmentally-themed plot, characters, and the performance of Michael Crawford (along with his questionable musical talent). He does praise the animation and give the film credit for taking a few more risks than most kids films of this genre, such as portraying humans as not entirely destructive, and acknowledges that it is not the worst of its kind. He basically finds it to be weak, not terrible.

Channel Awesome tag: Michael Crawford as Cornelius: "Rrrrrheumatism."
167"Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerJune 7, 2011 (2011-06-07)

The Critic reviews Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland (1989). While he lends high praise to the animation and the creativity, he criticizes the confusing plot, poorly-developed characters (particularly the uninteresting main character's lack of meaningful dialogue), and clichéd fantasy environment of Slumberland. Special criticism is used for the film's tendency to break the story's flow with Nemo's numerous false awakenings and the fact that the film had such an infamously troubled production, making the final product seem all the worse. He does however give some credit to the villain, but criticizes his voice. At the end he is congratulated in a mock award ceremony for not making one Finding Nemo joke, much to his delight, then confusion.

Channel Awesome tag: Gabriel Damon as Nemo: "Yippee!"
168"Old Vs. New: True Grit Vs. True Grit"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerJune 14, 2011 (2011-06-14)

The Critic compares the 1969 and 2010 True Grit films:

  • Best Mattie: 2010 version (Hailee Steinfeld)
  • Best Cogburn: 2010 version (Jeff Bridges)
  • Best Supporting Cast: 2010 version
  • Best Villains: 1969 version
  • Best Story: 2010 version

The remake wins over the original, 4-1, although the Critic does not believe this score represents his opinion well, declaring both versions to be great movies that deserves recognition. However, he leans towards the remake when comparing the two of them, finding it to be more complex and grittier and give off a much larger impact than the original.

Channel Awesome tag: Ed Lee Corbin as the Bear Guy (Dr Forrester): "I have taken his teeth."

169"Transformers 3"Doug WalkerDoug WalkerJuly 5, 2011 (2011-07-05)
As with past reviews of the series, the Critic starts to review Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011) in the same hyperactive way he did in his reviews of the first two films. However, while doing this, he suddenly gets sued by Chester A. Bum for stealing his style. A court (led by General Zod) allows Chester to do the review (as well as any future 'jump cut' reviews).
170"Milk Money"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerJuly 12, 2011 (2011-07-12)

The Critic reviews Milk Money (1994). He considers the film "sick" and hellbound for taking a sleazy premise and trying to make it family friendly, with a dreadful plot, painful dialogue, bad acting (particularly of Malcolm McDowell), inappropriate overtones, annoying screenwriting cliches, the main characters' similarities to the cast of Full House, and many awkward moments. Special criticism is reserved for a scene when Frank, one of the boys, brings Melanie Griffith's prostitute character to sex education.

Channel Awesome tag: Malcolm McDowell as Waltzer: "I'm going to the sock hop."
171"Rad"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerJuly 19, 2011 (2011-07-19)

The Critic reviews Rad (1986). He criticizes the poorly-developed plot, uninteresting characters, unconvincing romance, highly repetitive biking stunts, and abrupt ending. The only factor he lends praise to is the fairly realistic bike crashes.

Channel Awesome tag: Bill Allen as Cru Jones: "Katie and I are, like... special."
172"Raiders of the Story Arc - DuckTales"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerJuly 26, 2011 (2011-07-26)

The Critic reviews the first five episodes of DuckTales. Despite its silly moments, he considers the show to hold up really well, praising the creative adventures, animation, characters (with the exception of Webby) and jokes.

Channel Awesome tag: Jim Cummings as El Capitan: "Gold!"
173"Care Bears in Wonderland"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerAugust 2, 2011 (2011-08-02)

The Critic happily reviews The Care Bears Adventure in Wonderland (1987). He considers it the most forgettable of the three films, criticizing the plot, the seemingly nameless characters, and considers it insulting to the Lewis Carroll book. However, he gives credit to Natalie Cole's singing (as opposed to Carole King's monotone version) and does considers the rapping Cheshire Cat as an enjoyable character; but at the same time acknowledges this may be due to everything else in the film being so uninteresting. However, he does mention the scary face in the villain song.

Real Thoughts:

Channel Awesome tag: Tracey Moore as Alice: "I'm just not.. special."
174"Cop and a Half"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerAugust 9, 2011 (2011-08-09)

The Critic reviews Cop and a Half (1993). He criticizes Burt Reynolds and Norman D. Golden II's characters and acting, the cliches, laughable villains, an over-the-top Alan Silvestri score, and Henry Winkler's direction. Special criticism is reserved for how incompetent the police force is shown to be, especially in the fact that they entrust the child star with jobs that are much too important and mature for a child.

Channel Awesome tag: Burt Reynolds as Nick McKenna: "DEVON!"
175"Top 11 Batman The Animated Series Episodes"Doug WalkerDoug WalkerAugust 16, 2011 (2011-08-16)

The Critic lists the top 11 Batman: The Animated Series episodes:

Runners up include "Joker's Favor", "Mudslide", "The Clock King" and "Legends of the Dark Knight".

Channel Awesome tag: Aron Kincaid as Killer Croc: "It was a big rock..."

176"Alaska"Doug WalkerDoug WalkerAugust 23, 2011 (2011-08-23)

The Critic reviews Alaska (1996). While admitting that the film's scenery looks nice, he comments on the unlikeable characters, lack of interaction between them, dull and predictable plot, Charlton Heston's acting, a pretentious score, excessive sugar-coating of a polar bear's aggressive predatory instincts, and spinning establishing shots of Alaska, saying the film does not encourage people to visit the state. Special criticism is reserved for a scene in which the poachers torture the caged bear cub with its mother's skin and stuffed head, as well as the local law enforcement's incompetence searching for the missing father.

Channel Awesome tag: Charlton Heston as Colin Perry the Poacher: "I want that bear!"
177"Let's Play Bart's Nightmare"Doug WalkerDoug WalkerSeptember 6, 2011 (2011-09-06)

Rather than doing a review, the Critic does a Let's Play of the game Bart's Nightmare (SNES). He finds the game too frustrating to play, and quits in a rage. The video provoked much negative feedback from fans and Walker, not considering it his best work, jokingly apologized for the video in his next review of James and the Giant Peach.

Channel Awesome tag: Nancy Cartwright as Bart Simpson: "Uh-oh!"
178"James and the Giant Peach"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerSeptember 13, 2011 (2011-09-13)

After the outraged reaction to his Let's Play of Bart's Nightmare, the Critic is forced to attempt a positive review of James and the Giant Peach (1996) in order to win back his fan-base, despite disliking the film (and is forced to change several negative comments at gunpoint and fall back on sarcasm to get his honest opinion across). While praising the creativity, sets and animation, and giving it credit for at least trying to adapt the original novel to where he can see why people liked it, he criticizes the musical numbers by Randy Newman (who the Critic is not a fan of), plot holes, and story elements that go nowhere. Special criticism is reserved for the vague subplot about the demonic rhino that kills James' parents.

Channel Awesome tag: Miriam Margolyes and Joanna Lumley as Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker: "Work, work, work, work, work!"
179"The Avengers"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerSeptember 20, 2011 (2011-09-20)

The Critic promotes Marvel's The Avengers (2012) by reviewing an unrelated 1998 film of the same title. He criticizes the plot holes, absence of people in the background, awkward characterization Sean Connery was given, the ineptitude of the spy agency, lack of passion, as well their odd choices of names and the overly polite dialogue. Special criticism is reserved for a scene in which the main villain and his henchmen dress in Teddy bear costumes during a meeting.

Channel Awesome tag: Sean Connery as August de Wynter: "One should never fear being wet."
180"Simon Sez"Doug Walker & Alison PreglerDoug Walker & Rob Walker
Alison Pregler
September 27, 2011 (2011-09-27)

The Critic reviews Simon Sez (1999) with Obscurus Lupa. While they admit that the film can be funny, the action scenes are decent and Dennis Rodman is an average actor, they criticize the plot and characters, including Dane Cook, with an over-reliance on animal impressions for good measure.

Channel Awesome tag: Dane Cook: (imitating a Wookie)
181"The Tommyknockers"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerOctober 4, 2011 (2011-10-04)

The Critic starts off Nostalgia-Ween by reviewing Tommyknockers (1993). While pointing out the usual Stephen King cliches of the miniseries addressed in It and The Langoliers, such as plot holes, melodrama, unlikable characters, hammy acting and a disappointing ending, he praises the buildup, interesting story ideas about exploring a mentally unstable person's mind, and over-the-top performances, summing it all up as "fascinating". Special criticism is reserved for Cliff DeYoung's character who keeps unashamedly having an affair, to the point of throwing a bag of sandwiches that his wife made for him out of his car, laughing evilly as he goes off to continue his affair (as well as calling his wife "a stoop of a wife"), and even continuing having an affair even when a child goes missing. This leads the Critic to call DeYoung's character "The Six Million Dollar Asshole".

Channel Awesome tag: Paul McIver as Hilly Brown: "All warm and safe and toasty."
182"The Haunting"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerOctober 11, 2011 (2011-10-11)

The Critic continues Nostalgia-Ween with his review of The Haunting (1999). He considers it to be one of the worst remakes of all time (especially compared to its original version, of which he is a big fan), if not the worst, angrily criticizing the ridiculous changes made to the plot, lack of subtlety in the characters (particularly the character Theo's implied lesbianism being made more blatant and Owen Wilson's character serving no purpose other than pointing out the obvious throughout the movie), replacing the suspense and scariness that made the original so endearing with CGI special effects that lack any actual scares, Liam Neeson's bland performance and constant monotone deliveries, and elements that thoroughly insult the original. However, he mildly enjoys the scenes with Catherine Zeta-Jones--though admittedly that's just for her sexual appeal in this film (which he suspects is mostly done for the sake of fan service), and gives credit to Lili Taylor, calling her a decent replacement for the lead. Special criticism is reserved for the anti-climactic ending which involves the protagonist defeating the antagonistic ghost of Hugh Crane with the power of love and family, which results in the Critic momentarily losing his mind and going off on a blind rant against director Jan de Bont, portraying him as an attention-starved adult child throwing a temper tantrum who mocks the creative style of Robert Wise, the director of the original classic, all the while desperately begging people to love his own work.

Walker later put it at #9 on his "Top 11 Best Nostalgia Critic Reviews" and #10 on his "Worst Movies Nostalgia Critic's Reviewed" lists.

Real Thoughts: Both Doug and Rob consider the film one of the top three worst remakes of all time. Doug even admitted that this was one of the few movies he walked out on in theaters along with The Legend of Zorro claiming he couldn't watch anymore of the film after Owen Wilson's character was killed off. They do admit again that Lili Taylor gave a decent performance.

Channel Awesome tag: Owen Wilson as Luke Sanderson: "Really creepy."
183"Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerOctober 18, 2011 (2011-10-18)

The Critic reviews Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (2000). He considers it to be a horrendous sequel to an otherwise interesting film, criticizing the plotholes, cluttered opening, characters (especially the Wiccan, Erika), editing, overacting, pointless scenes, unexplained elements and twist ending. Special criticism is reserved for how the film barely has anything to do with the original film and the "Book of Shadows" in the title is never even seen or mentioned at all.

Note: The Critic later ranked Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 #10 on his Top 11 Worst Sequels list.

Channel Awesome tag: Stephen Barker Turner as Stephen: "I swear to Christ!"
184"Exorcist 2: The Heretic"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerOctober 25, 2011 (2011-10-25)

The Critic concludes Nostalgia-Ween with his review of Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977). While not considering it the worst sequel he has ever had to review, he still considers it weak, criticizing the plot holes, lack of story, over usage of locusts and bright lights and that the film never attempts to scare the viewer. Special criticism is reserved for the name of the demon, Pazuzu, calling the name more silly than actually scary.

Real Thoughts:

Channel Awesome tag: Linda Blair as Regan MacNeil: "I was possessed by a demon."
185"Doug's 1st Movie"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerNovember 1, 2011 (2011-11-01)

The Critic reviews Doug's 1st Movie (1999). Already disliking the original cartoon due to childhood torment, he criticizes it saying its bland and boring like the show, disliking the characters and weird plot points. However, he is ecstatic when he finds that Disney changed the opening theme, considers a robot a likable character, and finds Mr. Dink's virtual reality scene to be funny. Special criticism is reserved for a scene where a character says, "Look at Doug with that cute girl!" when Doug brings the monster to school dressed up as a female student. Note: Doug again mistakes the characters for being in high school when it is made clear that Doug Funnie is attending middle school in the film.

Channel Awesome tag: Eddie Korbich as Robocrusher: "Roger... Roger... Roger..."
186"The Cell"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerNovember 8, 2011 (2011-11-08)

The Critic reviews The Cell (2000). While admitting that some visuals are impressive and praises the idea of exploring a serial killer's mind, he criticizes the film's extremely nonsensical and confusing nature, Vincent D'Onofrio's lack of character development, Vince Vaughn's performance, and essentially labels it as an overly serious exploitation film. Walker later placed it at #8 on his "Worst Movies Nostalgia Critic's Reviewed" list.

Real Thoughts: Doug and Rob consider the film is trying to get attention and fails. They also think the movie doesn't work because of D'Onofrio not being given enough character development.

Channel Awesome tag: Vince Vaughn as Peter Novak: "If we can't stop him, he ain't gonna stop himself."
187"Raiders of the Story Arc: Superman: The Animated Series"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerNovember 15, 2011 (2011-11-15)

The Critic reviews the first three episodes of Superman: The Animated Series. He considers the show to hold up, praising the acting and action along with the well-told and distinct interpretation of Superman's origin story, but considers it rushed.

Channel Awesome tag: Dana Delany as Lois Lane: "Nice 'S'!"
188"Felix the Cat: The Movie"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerNovember 22, 2011 (2011-11-22)

The Critic reviews Felix the Cat: The Movie (1988). He considers it one of the worst films he has ever had to review, citing the clumsy and chaotic animation, poor sound editing, pitiful lip synching, horrifying 3D effect in the opening, terrible characters and lack of any thought, focus and structure. Special criticism is reserved for the seemingly endless randomness of everything that transpires onscreen, a scene in which Felix laughs at a skull and makes faces at it, and the film's villain song, which he feels makes no sense. He also finds it worse than The Magic Voyage, where while the film had the same problems as Felix the Cat, it at least had better sound. Walker later put at #4 on his "Worst Movies Nostalgia Critic's Reviewed" list.

Channel Awesome tag: Chris Phillips as Felix: (laughing)

November 29, 2011 (2011-11-29)

The Critic reviews Moulin Rouge! (2001), along with The Nostalgia Chick and YouTube celebrity brentalfloss in a musical format. As Doug had ranked the film as the #1 movie he hates that seemingly everyone else loves, the others try to convince the Critic that Moulin Rouge! lives up to its reception, but he absolutely hates it, criticizing the lack of original music, fast-paced editing, fairytale romance, musical numbers, acting, plot holes, repetitive themes, and writing (although he does seem to let up at the "El Tango de Roxanne" sequence, admitting he admires the choreography, sets and design). As the review progresses, brentalfloss and the Chick cave in and reveal their own frustrations about the film (brentalfloss reveals that he hates how certain elements that make no sense are brushed over by the theme of love while the Chick reveals that she hates Christian's actions near the end of the film), but by the end, they admit that they think of it as a guilty pleasure, to which the Critic understands where they are coming from.

He called it his favorite review out of the "Top 11 Nostalgia Critic Episodes", and put the film at #9 on his "Worst Movies Nostalgia Critic's Reviewed" list. An instrumental version of the episode's parody of "The Show Must Go On", "The Review Must Go On", would become the show's theme song in 2013.

Channel Awesome tag: Richard Roxburgh as The Duke of Monroth: "I just don't like other people touching my things!"
190"Babes in Toyland"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerDecember 6, 2011 (2011-12-06)

The Critic reviews Babes in Toyland (1986). While he bashes the effects, acting, songs, and story elements that come from nowhere, he considers it enjoyable because of its campiness. During the review, he is pestered by the Ghost of Christmas Future to do a Christmas Carol parody. When he refuses, he allows the ghost to pick the next movie to review, which, unfortunately for him, is The Grinch, the only Christmas film he genuinely hates.

Channel Awesome tag: Keanu Reeves as Jack: "Over my dead body!"
191"The Grinch"Doug WalkerDoug Walker & Rob WalkerDecember 13, 2011 (2011-12-13)

The Critic reviews The Grinch (2000) entirely in rhyme reminiscent of the original television special. He questions why the live-action film needed to be made, let alone gain a cult following, calling the original 1966 special a classic while criticizing Jim Carrey's performance (but gave him credit for at least trying based on certain circumstances), sets, camera work, Donald Peterman's muted colors and gloomy cinematography, attempts at drama that he feels weakens the moral to an extent, jokes and the Whos being depicted as worse characters than the Grinch himself. However, he praises the Grinch's makeup, the third act's loyalty to the book and notes one good joke ("Taxi! It's because I'm green, isn't it?!"). Special criticism is reserved for a scene where the Grinch makes Whoville's sleeping mayor kiss Max's rear end. In the end, he looks at the comments to see if anyone hated the movie, but he realizes he cannot change other people's opinions (though he quickly dismisses it and claims he's right, much to the annoyance of the narrator (Doug)).

Real Thoughts: Doug and Rob consider the film one of the ugliest films they ever saw as well as one of the worst Christmas films ever made along with Christmas with the Kranks and I'll Be Home for Christmas. They also admitted that they hoped that the upcoming animated movie based on the book will be better, but express doubts as the studio had previously made another bad Dr. Seuss movie.

Channel Awesome tag: Jim Carrey as the Grinch: "Now, pucker up and kiss it, Whoville!"

December 20, 2011 (2011-12-20)

The Critic reviews Child's Play (1988) with Phelous. They criticize the plot holes, acting, premise, and its overall silliness. Phelous points out how the movie goes downhill when Chucky is shown moving and talking, as he was more creepy when he was still inanimate. The Critic ends the review by stating that while he can see why some people can be frightened at the film, it is "pretty dated and corny."

Channel Awesome tag: Alex Vincent as Andy Barclay: "This is the end, friend!"
