List of Presidents of Iceland by languages spoken
The following is a list of presidents of Iceland by languages spoken. Every president of Iceland has been a native speaker of Icelandic and due to the historical ties between Iceland and Denmark, Danish has been a mandatory subject in the education system along with English.

Sveinn Björnsson[edit]
Sveinn Björnsson was born in Denmark and studied law at the University of Copenhagen.[1]

Kristján Eldjárn[edit]
Kristján Eldjárn studied archaeology at the University of Copenhagen.
Vigdís Finnbogadóttir[edit]
Vigdís Finnbogadóttir studied French and French literature at Grenoble Alps University and the University of Paris. She studied the history of theater at the University of Copenhagen. She acquired a BA in French and English, as well as a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education, at the University of Iceland. In a 2012 interview, when asked what languages she spoke, she answered: "The Nordic languages, English and French. In addition, I can easily say some things in German if I get started." When asked if she spoke general Scandinavian she clarified by stating that she specifically spoke Danish and had lived in Sweden. She claimed not to speak Italian nor Spanish but said that she could understand them to a degree due to her knowledge of Latin and French.[2]
Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson[edit]
Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson studied economics and political science at the University of Manchester.
Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson[edit]
Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson received a BA in history and political science at the University of Warwick, an MSt in history at St Antony's College, University of Oxford and a PhD in history at Queen Mary, University of London. He also studied German in Bonn, Germany, without completing his degree in addition to studying Russian during his MA in history at the University of Iceland.[3]
