List of association football players with 50 or more goals in a season

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Note: This list is incomplete due to an absence of data for several South American and European players. It will be revised and updated if and when new information becomes available.

The following is a list of association football players with 50 or more goals in a season. The milestone is rare; due to the lack of complete data, the author of this list have only been able to find 48 players of 22 nationalities that have accomplished the feat in the top division, with a total of 20 leagues in the world represented.

Only twelve players have scored 50 goals on multiple occasions, Lionel Messi scored the most goals ever in a season when he scored 73 goals for Spanish team Barcelona in 2011–12, while Archie Stark is the only other player to ever break the 70 goal barrier, doing so 87 years earlier in 1924–25 for American team Bethlehem Steel. The 60 goal barrier has been reached by 16 different players.

The first to achieve the 50 goal milestone was Duncan Walker, scoring 56 goals for Scottish team St. Mirren in the 1921–22 season, while only Mário Jardel has scored 50 for two different teams, doing so for Portuguese teams FC Porto and Sporting CP.
