Anuradhapura massacre | 1985-05-14 | Anuradhapura, North Central Province | 146 | LTTE cadres invaded the town and opened fire indiscriminately with automatic weapons killing and wounding many civilians who were waiting for buses. Then they drove to the sacred Buddhist shrine Sri Maha Bodhi and gunned down nuns, monks and civilians as they were worshiping inside the shrine.[3][4][5] Before they withdrew, the LTTE strike force entered the Wilpattu National Park and killed 18 Sinhalese in the forest reserve, who unknowingly helped to pull the LTTE vehicle which was struck in a mud pool. |
