A fictional musical or fictitious musical is a non-existent stage musical that was created specifically for (i.e. within) a work of fiction such as a novel, film, TV series, play or even an actual stage musical.[citation needed] Strictly, the term does not refer to actual musicals based on fiction (i.e. as opposed to those based on real-life people or events) but rather to imaginary musicals that do not actually exist.
