List of international cricket five-wicket hauls on Emirati cricket grounds

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Top-level international cricket has been played in the United Arab Emirates since 1984 when the first One Day International (ODI) in the country was played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The country has been used regularly since, with both Pakistan and India playing home matches in the country on a regular basis.[lower-alpha 1][1] The United Arab Emirates national cricket team became an Associate Member of the International Cricket Council in 1990 and played its first home ODI matches in 1994 against India and Pakistan in the Austral-Asia Cup.

In cricket, a five-wicket haul (also known as a "five-for" or "fifer") refers to a bowler taking five or more wickets in a single innings. This is regarded as a notable achievement.[2] This article details the five-wicket hauls taken on grounds in the UAE in official international Test matches, One Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals.

Notes[edit]

  1. Both countries used the country for home matches due to its close proximity to the Indian subcontinent. Pakistan has continued to play "home" matches in the UAE due to political instability and the threat of domestic terrorism in the country, while India has moved away from playing matches in the UAE, partly as a result of match-fixing allegations surrounding grounds in the country.
  2. International matches have been played on two grounds at the ICC Academy. No five-wicket hauls have been taken in international matches on ICC Academy Ground No. 2.
