The CH prefix meaning “champion” is awarded to a dog that has won three straight dog fighting victories without a defeat and GR.CH is a prefix meaning “Grand Champion” awarded to a dog that has won five straight victories without defeat. A producer of champions is awarded the letter ROM after its name. The Sporting Dog Journal[1] (SDJ) created a list based on a point system. The SDJ system worked as follows, a male dog is placed on the Sporting Dog Journal’s ROM list if the dog has four points or the bitch has three points. To obtain points every fighting champion a sire (male) or a bitch (female) produces results in one point. A minimum of three points is required to get onto the ROM list for bitches and four points for sires. There are many more male ROM producers of successful offspring than female; this is because males have the opportunity to produce far greater numbers of offspring than females. A male can obviously mate multiple times every day for the majority of its life time whereas a female can only produce a finite number of litters.
