There are, as of September 2022[update], 15 sovereign states which are headed by Charles III since his accession on 8 September 2022; collectively, these are called the Commonwealth Realms. Additionally, in his capacity as King of the United Kingdom (including the British overseas territories), he is also monarch of three Crown Dependencies—the Channel Island of Guernsey and Jersey (as the Duke of Normandy), and the Isle of Man (as the Lord of Mann).[1][2]—and, in his capacity as King of New Zealand, he is monarch of two associated states—the Cook Islands and Niue.
