List of tallest buildings in Uniontown, Pennsylvania
Uniontown, a small city in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania, is home to several unique pieces of historic architecture, and a very robust skyline for a city of such size. There are six buildings in the downtown area over 100 feet (30 m) tall. The tallest building in Uniontown is the Fayette County Courthouse, a historic example of Romanesque Revival architecture, which rises 188 feet (57 m) and was completed in 1892.[1] It also stands as the tallest building in Fayette County. The second tallest non-religious structure in the city is the Fayette Building, which rises 146 feet (45 m) and was designed by Daniel Burnham.[2]
Uniontown was a fast growing region in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, when several of the entries on this list were constructed. However, with the decline of coal mining in Western Pennsylvania, and the general deindustrialization of the Connellsville coalfield region, the city went into decline. Fewer significant construction projects occurred in the downtown area over the last ninety years.
