Live Time is the first live album by the american rock band Ten Inch Men, released in 2002. Recorded during the Laughter Train Tour, it marked the last appearance of guitarist Mark Templin and bassist Rusty Riopelle on new material, as they decided to prioritize their families after the band's hiatus in 2002.
While Laughter Train didn't reach the same heights as its predecessors, Live Time found success both commercially and critically, celebrated for its meticulous selection of tracks that artfully blended hits with deep cuts. Two singles were released: "Back to Blue" and "Heavy Dog".
Background[edit]
The production of Live Time unfolded against a backdrop of change and evolution within the band. Vocalist Dave Coutts reflected on this period, stating, "It was a time of reflection and transition for us. Mark and Rusty had been instrumental in our journey, and their decision to step back was met with understanding and support."
Bassist Rusty Riopelle, commenting on the recording process, noted, "Live albums carry a unique energy—the raw connection with the audience. It felt like a fitting way to document the Laughter Train Tour, a testament to our camaraderie on stage."
The setlist of Live Time skillfully blended fan favorites with new material, showcasing the band's dynamic range. Tracks like "Mr. Rock & Roll" and "My Arms Are Open Wide" provided a nod to the familiar, while deep cut compositions like "Back to Blue" and "Heavy Dog" added a fresh layer to the live experience.
Music[edit]
Live Time unfolds as a dynamic sonic tapestry, capturing the raw energy and intimacy of a live Ten Inch Men performance. The album kicks off with the infectious energy of "Mr. Rock & Roll", setting the tone for an electrifying journey. The intertwining guitars of Templin, complemented by the rhythm section of Riopelle and Steve Coutts, create a rich and immersive soundscape.
Hits like "Hello Hello" and "Crazy Day Dream" are met with resounding cheers from the audience, showcasing the band's ability to connect with their fan base. The inclusion of new tracks like "Party Time" and "Feel My Energy" adds a layer of unpredictability, creating a concert experience that feels both familiar and fresh.
The emotional resonance of "John", a track composed for past bassist John McCloy, serves as a poignant highlight. The powerful synergy between the band members, old and new, is palpable, adding emotional depth to the live rendition.
