Live file system
From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki
Optical media can be used to simulate flash storage using a UDF-powered live file system (or “live data system”) and packet writing, where the user can add/remove/move/rename/change files as if it were on flash storage or hard drive storage.
This also works on write-once media using so-called VAT builds (virtual allocation table builds) (UDF 1.50, 2.00, 2.01, 2.50) or incremental random writing (UDF 2.60 on BD-R).
