Live file system
From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki
Optical media can be used to simulate flash storage using a UDF-powered live file system (or “live data system”) and packet writing, where the user can add, remove, move, rename, and change files as if it were on flash storage or hard drive storage.
This also works on write-once media using so-called VAT builds (virtual allocation table builds) (UDF 1.50, 2.00, 2.01, 2.50) or incremental random writing (UDF 2.60 on BD-R).
