Liven is an Australian loyalty and payments company founded in Melbourne[3] in 2014.[4] Liven’s users browse curated restaurants, cafés, and bars in their city, pay[5] instantly on their phone and earn LVN;[6][7] a universal digital dining currency that they can spend[8] the next time they dine anywhere in the Liven network.

The company has partnered with thousands of restaurants, has integration with various POS providers including Lightspeed,[9] and services a user base of over 700,000.

History[edit]

Liven was founded[10] in 2014 by William Wong, Grace Wong[11][12] and David Ballerini as a discovery and loyalty service for the hospitality industry. Launched in Melbourne, the company quickly expanded to include the Sydney and Brisbane markets[13] by 2016, and Perth, Adelaide and Canberra in 2020.

The company is backed by venture capital, having closed funding rounds in 2014, 2017 and 2020, with the most significant investors including Artesian Capital[14] and Coca-Cola Amatil.[15]

With over 700,000 users, Liven is regularly ranked in the top 10 in the Appstore and was even featured as Apple’s App[16] of the Day.[17] Liven were also the winners of both the blockchain and digital payments prizes of Sir Richard Branson’s 2019 Extreme Tech Challenge.[18]

Service overview[edit]

Liven is a two-sided marketplace, servicing a large database of consumers who interact with merchant partners, primarily from the hospitality industry.

Consumers engage within the Liven network through the use of the Liven smartphone app, which allows them discover new venues to experience, pay for meals and earn rewards through a gamified interface.

Liven offers a suite of products to the merchant partners including payment and loyalty services, financial products and more recently, contact tracing services. Liven recently made headlines with the Care Package[19] initiative, designed to help hospitality survive COVID-19, raising hundreds of thousands to support restaurants in their time of crisis.[20]

Promotion[edit]

In partnership with Liven, Judo_Bank is offering all new trading business customers who sign up to a business loan or line of credit, $2,000[21] to spend with our hospitality customers. All-in-all, over 100 restaurants, cafes and bars across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland have signed up to JumpStart[22]
