Liverpool University Boat Club (LUBC) is the rowing club of University of Liverpool, UK. Established in 1926, it is one of the oldest and largest clubs at the University of Liverpool. It is celebrating its centenary in 2026.[1][2]
Training facilities
The club trains on the River Weaver from a purpose-built boathouse on the North bank of the river outside the village of Runcorn. Rowers have access to 16 km (9.9 mi) of water. Situated between two locks, the river is almost never in flood, which makes for a rowerable course in almost all weather conditions. The river is situated on a canal trust, and extended paddles offer crews the opportunity to row under the Dutton Viaduct which the West Coast Main Line traverses.[3]
Land training takes place at three sites within the city itself. The club uses the University Sports centre in Greenbank, with Concept2 rowing ergometers, static bikes and a fully stocked free weights suite. The club uses the University Performance centre in Vine court for strength and conditioning training. The club also has use of the university's main sports centre, with access to further rowing machines, weights facilities, fitness suite and sports halls for circuit training. Through the university's performance sports programme, elite rowers get access to free physiotherapy, sports massage, nutritional expertise and strength and conditioning coaching.[4][5]
Events
The Boat club hosts a Novice Race Day in early December every year. Which started in 2011 as an annual side-by-side race with the University of Manchester to give Novice Rowers a taste of the racing experience. Since then it has grown into a bigger event with universities from across the North-West taking part.[6]
