History

Liz Mohn established the Liz Mohn Culture and Music Foundation in 2005 with an endowment capital of 16.2 million euros. The foundation supported opera singing talents, music education, and understanding among children and young people from different cultural backgrounds.[1]

In 2022, after leaving the executive board of the Bertelsmann Foundation, Mohn, together with the foundation, founded the Liz Mohn Center as a limited liability company (gGmbH) with the goal of global knowledge transfer.[2]

In February 2024, Mohn merged the activities of the Center and the Culture and Music Foundation into the Liz Mohn Foundation. According to her statements, the founder aims to consolidate her engagement and enable strategic development.[3] This was achieved by restructuring the Liz Mohn Culture and Music Foundation, which is why the official founding date in the foundation registry is 2005.[4]

Organization

The founder acts as the chairperson of the board, supported in this role by Matthias Meis. The office in Gütersloh has 15 employees (as of 2024) and is led by Nadine Lindemann and Jörg Habich.[5]
