The Llovcë massacre (Albanian: Masakrën e Llovcës, Serbian: Masakr u Llovci) refers to the mass murder of Kosovo Albanian civilians committed by Serbian paramilitary forces on 5 April 1999 in Llovce, Kosovo, during the 1999 Kosovo war.[1]

Massacre[edit]

The Llovcë massacre was a mass murder that occurred on April 5, 1999 in the village of Llovcë, Kosovo. A group of Serbs from Pasjani, including a forest guard, stopped a tractor carrying seven Albanians and subjected them to a beating and torture before killing them. The were 7 people killed in total:

  • Rabit Tahir Dalipi
  • Xhevrije Ramë Zeqiri
  • Xhemail Kadri Halimi
  • Sami Abdyl Xhelili
  • Avdi Selver Rexhepi
  • Rahim Bajram Ymeri
  • Nexhmije Riza Azemi[2][1]

Two other people, Nazmi Hajdini and Marigona Azemi, were injured in the massacre. Mehmedali Azemi, another witness from Llovcë, stated that a group of around 30 armed Serbs entered their houses and shot in various directions, leading to the deaths and injuries. Nazim Rashiti was also killed on the same day by Serbian paramilitaries in the village of Pogragje.[2]

As the group fled the village of Llovcë, Nexhmije Riza Azemi was shot in the back while sheltering her baby niece, Marigona Azemi, as they ran away. The bullet went through both Nexhmije and Marigona, and Marigona was rushed to the hospital in Gjilan by Riza Rizahu from Pogragje. Despite being injured, Marigona survived the shooting and received further medical treatment in Ireland after being expedited by the UN.[2][1]

The bodies of the victims were later buried in the place called "Dardha e Neziri." This murder can be classified as a mass murder due to the number of victims and the intentional nature of the killings.[3]. The perpetrators of this tragic event have yet to be brought to justice[3]
