On May 10, 2008, a riot broke out at Locke highschool in south Los Angeles. A fight in the lunchroom spread through the halls and turned into a campus-wide brawl.[1] Students were jumped upon while walking with friends and local security couldn't stop violence. LAPD sent 50-100 officers in riot gear to the campus.[2] Four students were arrested but no one was seriously injured.[3] The school is located only a few blocks from the epicenter of the Watts riot of 1965. School officials have seen rising black vs Latino tensions for years but failed to quell them, leading to the riot.[citation needed]
