LooLoo Kids is a Romanian kids' YouTube channel operated by Mora TV, a Romanian organization that produces audio-visual contents for children.[1] Created in 2014, the channel specializes in 3D animations of traditional nursery rhymes and educational videos as well as their own original children's song. LooLoo Kids is the first YouTube channel from Romania to receive the Diamond Play Button.[2][3][4]

History[edit]

Cristina and Alexandru Badan, a Romanian couple living in Iași, Romania, founded Mora TV in 2012.[2][5] They launched their first channel TraLaLa with the purpose of creating original content for children including songs and 3D animations, among other cartoons dubbed in Romanian.[2][5] In August of 2014, the company created another channel, LooLoo Kids, which produced computer-animated nursery rhymes and educational videos for children. LooLoo Kids gained a large number of subscribers and views from many countries and became Mora TV's largest YouTube channel; by 2022, the channel surpassed 50 million subscribers worldwide, becoming the first channel from Romania to receive the Diamond Play Button.[2][3] The channel's increasing popularity led to the creation of a spin-off series featuring the main characters from the channel's videos, named Johny and Friends - Musical Adventure that premiered on Netflix on September 1, 2019.[6]

Content[edit]

LooLoo Kids creates mainly videos of both traditional nursery rhymes and their own original songs as well as other educational videos for children presented in 3D animation. The channel publishes videos in various languages including English, Romanian, Spanish, French, Turkish, Chinese, Korean, Lithuanian, Polish, German etc.[3] The lyrics appear at the bottom of the screen. The company also delivers songs through the popular streaming service Spotify.[citation needed] The Netflix series which has only one season features all nursery rhymes in 5 episodes.[citation needed] YouTube content consists of standalone videos, compilations and livestreams.

The channel's videos mainly focus on a group of children, their parents and animals, who interact with each other in a friendly manner. According to Common Sense Media, the song videos made by LooLoo Kids and the spin-off series, Johny and Friends - Musical Adventure teach children counting, subtracting, movements, animals, and social emotional lessons, while also delivering a positive message about friendship.[7] They gave it a rating of 3 out of 5 considering its educational value, positive message, positive role model, violence and scariness (characters may get hurt or fall down, but no graphic detail of any kind of injury is shown), and a user rating of 5 out of 5 stars based on 1 review by a parent.[8] However, health specialists have suggested preventing children below 2 years from watching the channel's videos even if they are educational.[5]

Viewership[edit]

LooLoo Kids is viewed by children from many countries. The majority of the audience comes from the United States with about 700 million views, followed by Indonesia, India, Thailand, the United Kingdom and Brazil.[9] Johny Johny Yes Papa uploaded by LooLoo Kids in 2016 is the most-watched nursery rhyme video as well as the third most-watched YouTube video with over 6.5 billion views.[10][11][12] However, it is also one of the most-disliked videos on YouTube, which became a popular meme in 2018.[13][14] As of September 2023, the channel has 32.87 billion views.[15]
