Lorne Blair (September 1945 – 6 August 1995[1]) was an English film director and producer.

Life and career[edit]

Blair was the director and producer, with his brother Lawrence, of the internationally acclaimed TV series Ring of Fire: An Indonesian Odyssey, an Emmy award nominee and winner of the 1989 National Educational Film and Video Festival Silver Apple awards.

Blair grew up with his family in England, France and Mexico. After university in Mexico, Blair returned to England with his brother and worked as a production assistant at the BBC in London. With financial backing from Ringo Starr, the Blair brothers travelled to Indonesia in 1972 to make a film documentary that followed the journey of the British naturalist, Alfred Russel Wallace. After the success of Ring of Fire, Blair settled in Bali and continued to work on film documentaries, including Cycles of the Soul in 1992.

In 1995, Blair died from medical complications after breaking his leg in a fall in Legian.[2]
