Background
Born in New York City, December 31, 1969, Louise Goldin is a British fashion designer in New York and was known as the "genius of knitwear" when she was in Vogue. She studied under Professor Louis Wilson OBE at Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design, graduating with a Master of Arts degree in 2005.[1]
Story Goldin champions all that is new and pioneering in knitting, defying tradition and creating powerful silhouettes and body contouring. She continually is researching new techniques and technologies meticulously, both in London and Italy where her factory is based. She has received a number of prestigious awards including the BFC's New Generation sponsorship. The Deutsche Bank's Pyramid and the Chloé award. Her work has been featured in numerous prominent fashion publications and sold in stores such as Harrods, Maria Luisa, L'Eclaireur and Galeries Lafayette. In 2010, Louise Goldin was announced as the winner of the BFC's Fashion Forward price - the first time the entire award funding had been given to a single designer. [2]
Spring/Summer 2008
Goldin solo debuted at the Long Collections and presented her new collection with a new thought in mind tailored towards proving herself. This collection dealt with colored yarns, a complete 180 to her previously neutral color palette. Being quoted as saying "she was thinking of the work of the Abstract Expressionist painter Kandinsky (Antonio Gaudi has proved an equally ambitious source of inspiration in the past) although the slick, geometric look of ultra-short, second-skin designs in myriad fluorescent hues also brought a futuristic take on the iconic knits of the famous Italian Missoni brand to mind." [3]
Spring/Summer 2014 Known as Goldin's last collection under the Louise Goldin brand, this collection falls in line with her recent works. She does her own take on Tennis attire, with models sporting an almost futuristic take on familiar pieces. We see vest, sundresses, button downs, and athleisure that looks to be from a distant future. They are all tied together with Goldin's signature neutral palette, while also mixing in summer colors such as pink, yellow, and shades of green.
Goldin's intended consumer Goldin is quoted as saying that an average consumer of her brand is "A woman who has her own sense of style. She can integrate a Louise Golding piece into her wardrobe and wear it effortlessly!"
