Lucas Jetten (born 7 June 2007) is a South African-born Dutch professional footballer who plays as a left-back for Jong Ajax and Ajax. He is a recipient of the Abdelhak Nouri Trophy as Ajax's academy talent of the year.
Early life
Born in South Africa, Jetten moved to the Netherlands and joined the Ajax youth academy in 2015 at the age of eight.[1]
Club career
Youth career
Jetten progressed through the various youth ranks at Ajax. During the 2023–24 season, he featured for the under-18 team, including appearances in the UEFA Youth League. In the summer of 2023, he signed his first professional contract with Ajax, committing him to the club until June 2026.[1]
Jong Ajax
Jetten made his professional debut for Jong Ajax in the Eerste Divisie on 10 January 2024, starting against De Graafschap.[2] Despite still being eligible for the U18s, he was promoted to the Jong Ajax squad for the 2024–25 season and established himself as a regular starter at left-back.[3] In recognition of his development during the previous season, Jetten was awarded the Abdelhak Nouri Trophy in June 2024, presented to Ajax's most talented youth player.[4][5] [6]
Ajax
In March 2025, Jetten was included in the senior Ajax squad for the first time for a UEFA Europa League match against Eintracht Frankfurt.[7] As of April 2025, he has yet to make his official competitive debut for the first team.
International career
Jetten has represented the Netherlands at various youth international levels. He played for the Netherlands U17 team in 2024.[2] Later that year, he progressed to the U18 and U19 squads.[2]
Style of play
Jetten primarily plays as an attacking left-back. He is known for his technical ability, speed, and willingness to join attacks from his defensive position.
