Lucy's Heart

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Lucy's Heart is an Australian short film from 2005, written and directed by Dan Andrews[1] and produced by Marisa Martin and Matthew Fallon. It was screened at the 2006 Season Summer festival in ACT, Australia.[2] The film has a runtime of approximately twelve minutes and was published by Enemies of Reality.[1]

A narrator tells the story, none of the characters speak (audibly). In fact, the only sound made by a character is an attempt at a high note by Lucy during the scene where she auditions for Pearl Harbour: The Musical (fictional).

Lucy's Heart should not be confused with the 2009 British short of the same name by LISPA student Laura Glagett.[3]

Summary[edit]

Lucy dreams of being loved. She's convinced that the only way to achieve that, is to become famous. Unfortunately, she has no talents whatsoever. After failing to get a part in the upcoming theatrical production of Pearl Harbour: The Musical, she decides to enter the annual Spring Blossom Princess beauty pageant. She tries to increase her chances of winning by sleeping with the only judge. Unfortunately, she's caught in the act by the judge's wife, which ruins any chance of winning she might have had.

Her next strategy is to move to the big city and knock on every modelling agency's door she can find. Unfortunately, the model scouts only want to use her for one thing and she fails in her mission to become famous. She then meets Brian, gets pregnant and marries him. But Brian isn't happy and decides to move to the Soviet Union (only to find that it ceased to exist 15 years earlier), leaving Lucy and their baby son behind.

Lucy is very unhappy until she meets Harry Connor, the author who wrote the Christian light erotic novels Lucy used to enjoy. They fall in love, get married and Harry adopts her son as his own. She discovers she does have a talent: writing. She publishes a book and gets invited to appear on television to talk about it; her big chance to finally become famous. But Lucy realises she has already achieved her primary goal of being loved: by her son and by her husband Harry, and decides not to pursue fame any longer.
