Luis Alfredo Rivera Olavarría (1869 – ?) was a Chilean agriculturalist, industrialist and politician who served as a member of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile.

A member of the Liberal Democratic Party, Rivera represented Temuco, Imperial and Llaima from 1909 to 1915. During his first term, he was a member of the Permanent Commission of War and Navy. Following his reelection for the 1912–1915 term, he served on the Permanent Commission of Social Legislation.[1]

Biography

Rivera was born in San Felipe in 1869, the son of Evaristo Rivera and Francisca Olavarría. He studied as a cadet at the Chilean Naval School and subsequently entered the Chilean Navy.[1]

In 1889, the government of President José Manuel Balmaceda sent him to Europe for further naval training, including work at a torpedo factory in Fiume. He returned to Chile in 1891 with the rank of first lieutenant.[1]

During the Chilean Civil War of 1891, Rivera supported Balmaceda's government and served with the naval force commanded by Commander Moraga. After the congressional victory, he went into exile in Peru. He later returned to Chile and became involved in agricultural activities in the southern frontier region.[1]

Rivera subsequently served as municipal councillor and mayor of Lautaro, as a member of the local Board of Charity, and as governor of Lautaro.[1]

He was first elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1909 and was reelected for the 1912–1915 legislative period.[1]
