Luke Archer (born 18 August 1989) is an British fashion designer from Hertfordshire, United Kingdom, and founder and creative director of the fashion brand Luke Archer. In February 2013, he won joint title of the Alfa Romeo Young Designer of the Year Award 2013.[1][2]

Education[edit]

Archer studied Fashion Textiles at North Hertfordshire College,[3] before attending Middlesex University to study BA Hons fashion, graduating in 2010. While studying for his BA at Middlesex University, Archer assisted fellow fashion designer Jasper Garvida as an intern on Garvida's AW/11, SS/12 and SS/13 collections. Archer said in an interview that he turned down the position of assistant designer for the Jasper Garvida label.[4]

Luke's graduate collection, 'Buprestidae,' which focused on insects, with beetle prints and bespoke laser cut earrings, was shown at the University's graduate show in September 2012.[5]

In 2010, while at Middlesex University, Luke and his partner John Silk created his eponymous brand Luke Archer, specialising in luxury womenswear and accessories. The brand has been reported to have 'The ilk of Alexander McQueen' within its designs.[4][6]

Alfa Romeo Young Designer of the Year Award

Archer was awarded the 2013 Alfa Romeo Young Designer of the Year Award along with fellow Middlesex University graduate and milliner George Jenkins. The pair created six complete outfits under the Luke Archer brand which were shown at the FS2013 catwalk event at University of St Andrews, Scotland on 16 February 2013. That day both Archer & Jenkins were declared winners of the award.[7][8] Alfa Romeo stated: "There was fierce competition this year but George and Luke were deserving winners for their exceptional collection, which clearly captured the spirit of Alfa Romeo with creative flair and amazing technical execution. Thanks to all the finalists for their hard work and making this competition such an enjoyable experience for us. We're sure they all have very bright futures ahead of them."[1]

London Fashion Week debut

On Friday, 13 September 2013, Luke Archer presented their spring summer '14 collection, 'De l'Océan' at London Fashion Week.[9] The collection was later exhibited for a week at North Hertfordshire College from September 23–29, 2013.[10]

On 12 December 2014, Luke Archer announced that their design studio would be relocated permanently to Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire.[11]

Personal life[edit]

Luke currently resides in Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire, and is an alumni ambassador for Middlesex University. He is dyslexic.
