Renecio Santos Espiritu Jr. (born October 18, 1974), also known as Luke Espiritu, is a Filipino lawyer, labor leader and social-democratic politician. He is the president of Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino from 2018 to 2021.[1]
Early life and education[edit]
Espiritu was born on October 18, 1974 in Bacolod, Negros Occidental[2] to Renecio R. Espiritu Sr. and Grace Espiga Santos. He studied La Salle Bacolod and La Salle Greenhills for his elementary education. He also studied Ateneo de Manila University from high school to legal education.

Legal career[edit]
In his legal career, Espiritu focused on public interest cases. These included cases involving the plunder of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, defense of rebel soldiers accused of mutinying against the Arroyo Administration, a Supreme Court petition to preserve free speech, and cases involving the ill-gotten wealth of former First Lady Imelda Marcos, who was the wife of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos. Espiritu has helped organize the relatives of the victims of the Escalante massacre. He has also defended students of the Cavite State University in Silang in a libel case filed by the administration against them.

Espiritu ran as a candidate for the Philippine Senate in the 2022 elections but he lost.[3]
