Luisa María, better known as Lulu99, is a famous Colombian YouTuber who makes vlogs, challenges, tags and videos talking about her daily life. Lulu99 was born on August 15, 2002, in Medellín, Colombia, and is currently one of the most successful YouTubers in her country.[1]
Biography
With more than 10.4 million subscribers on YouTube, Lulu enjoys her time as a YouTuber. In a recent interview, she talked about how her beginnings were on YouTube and remembered her first video that she uploaded to the platform: "The first video I made was a failure, no one saw it," she said, laughing, but she assured that perseverance must be vital to be able to start having a channel with so much success.[2][3]
Her brother Sebastián was the one who motivated her to make her own channel, but it is she who thinks, produces and edits her videos. “Connecting with so many people, seeing how they support you or reading nice comments is the best part.” In 2018, Lulu99 became an ambassador for Coca-Cola in the Colombia vs Senegal match, thanks to participating in a contest developed by Findasense for Coca-Cola in Colombia.[4]
On May 2, 2018, Lulu99 launched her Roast Yourself Challenge, which in one year had more than 23 million views and in which, like all YouTubers, she answered openly to all the questions that her haters and detractors ask and say about her. The video was directed by Oscar E. Otero with production support from Diip Studio and The Vint.[5] Before this launch, Lulu99 commented: “HELLO, HELLO, beautiful Lulutubers. You don't know how happy and proud I am at this moment for presenting my ROAST YOURSELF 2018. I hope you LOVE the song as well as me, I did it with a lot of love for all of you”.
At the end of 2019, the YouTuber Lulu 99 appeared at the Tú 2019 Awards, where she performed her “Roast Yourself Challenge 2018”,[6] with which she has achieved more than 24 million views and, to finish, she sang the song that she was premiering at that time, "Soy Así", a melody that, according to the young Colombian, sends a message of self-love.[7][8] In an interview in Mexico where she went promoting her new single, she commented on her rise to stardom: “I started making videos of beauty but I didn't have many views, then I changed my content almost completely and I started doing comedy, that's when people started following me. I believe that each influencer has a very big responsibility, I always try to make my content very wholesome, that gives a positive message, that entertains and amuses people, I have followers from 5 to 12 years and I have to take care of what they are going to see on my channel”, she commented.
In 2020, Luisa Lulu99 recounted in a video the difficult moment she went through when she was admitted to intensive care and remained on the brink of death. The young woman said that at 7 years old, after suffering a traffic accident with her parents, she had several sequels, including seizures of epilepsy caused by a brain tumor. Luisa Lulu explained that she had to undergo surgery to have it removed, something that led her to remain for several days in intensive care, after negligence by a nurse. And added the Colombian: "In the distance I saw a light, like the typical thing they say about 'the light at the end of the tunnel.' I was very scared, because I felt that if I went towards the light, I was going to die".[9][10][11]
