The Finnish forest museum Lusto is located in Punkaharju and currently belongs to the city of Savonlinna Lusto is an expert in forest culture and a mediator of reliable information. It is a national museum of responsibility, its territory is a forest and everything related to it.
Building[edit]
The Lusto building, completed in 1994, has been chosen as a sample of Finnish modern architecture of the 20th century. The main designers of the larch-lined concrete frame building are architects Rainer Mahlamäki and Ilmari Lahdelma.[1] As the name suggests, the original Lusto building is round, like the annual ring of a tree. The area of the Lusto building is 6,000 square meters, of which 2,500 square meters are exhibition space.
The extension part of Lusto was opened to the public in 2008, and with the new building regulations, it was possible to use more wood in the construction, for example in the frame.
Lusto Exhibition Spaces are different from traditional, neutral museum space, as they have tried to continue the impression of the forest, for example by means of variable lighting and spaces of different heights and shapes.
