Indian academician and researcher in Commerce. Dr. M Sarngadharan has contributed more than 1000 research and popular articles in research journals and periodicals and authored 18 books published by Indian and foreign publishers. Currently with the Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation, Government of Kerala, Trivandrum, India as Senior Fellow -ICSSR on completion of the term as UGC Emeritus Fellow in Commerce at University of Kerala

Career and achievements[edit]

He has taught at the post graduate level in the University of Kerala and other institutions for the past 41 years. He has been engaged in applied research activities in industrial management, tourism, power sector finance and reforms, women empowerment and other related subjects since 1980. He was the Director of a known Management Institute in Kerala till March 2015. His studies are well noted in the national and international level. He has guided 29 doctoral theses and 104 M. Phil dissertations. He was honored by the Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Legal Studies for producing the highest number of PhD. in Humanities and Social Sciences among the serving teachers in Kerala in 2008. His e-book co authored with Dr.D Shina published by Cooperjal Ltd, UK on Electricity Industry in Public Sector in India is an internationally noted work. A comprehensive study undertaken by him on the contemporary industrial environment in Indian economy in the globalisation context was first of kind in the country. The book is in two volumes published with the co operation of 25 scholars from the academic world of the country is another globally accepted work.

Positions held[edit]

He served as the head of the university department for more than 15 years. He has held the positions of Dean, Faculty of Commerce,University of Kerala, Member-Senate-Cochin University of Science and Technology, Member-Senate, Member-Academic Council and Chairman-PG Board of Studies, University Of Kerala. He has also served in the Curriculum Committee for VHSE under the Chairmanship of Minister for Education, and as the Government Administrator of the world-famous Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham Trust, Sivagiri founded by Sri Narayana Guru, the great saint.

Sree Narayana Guru Commerce Award for the contributions towards the development of Commerce 2009 by Dharma Prabodhanam Trust (Presented by Sri. Varkala Radhakrishnan,Former Speaker,Legislative Assembly kerala) • Gold Medal of the Kerala University Students’ Union for the First Rank in M.Com. Degree Examination 1975. Presented by Prof. Nurul Hassan, the then Union Minister for Education, Govt. of India. . International Excellence Award for Malayalee - Educationalist and Social Scientist (Abu dhabi) January 2011. . Vidhya Ratna Award 2011 instituted by Kalanidhi, Thiruvananthapuram for excellent service in teaching and research. Chosen as the best social scientist in Kerala by Sree Narayana Matha Sanghom, Kollam in July 2019, for securing the Senior Fellowship awarded during 2018-10, by Indian Council of Social Science Research, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
