Mahanayika is a 2016 Indian drama film directed by Saikat Bhakat, and starring Rituparna Sengupta and Indraneil Sengupta.[1][2]
Plot
Shakuntala Sen is the princess of the glamour world. Her lover Aniruddha Mukherjee is a hero. Aniruddha’s father Arindam is the biggest producer of the film world. Shakuntala’s would-be father-in-law wants a hold on her career. Somehow, Shakuntala agrees, considering it a question of her future stability, as most women do.
A new difficulty arises – a detective officer, Priyabrato Roy, arrives in her life like a villain, exhuming black incidents from her past. Priyabrato victimizes Shakuntala repeatedly. We see her sleeping with Priyabrato, finding no other way. But in the end, we are puzzled to see Shakuntala discover her love in Priyabrato (herself!) and, instead of giving up her career, she breaks her relationship with the Mukherjee family. She transcends the limits of `ASHTONAYIKA’ (ref. Natyashastra, Bharat) and becomes Ninth. She becomes a world idol from a common regional film heroine. Shakuntala Sen becomes a diva (Mahanayika).
