MASSIMODECARLO Pièce Unique, February 2021

The gallery is based on Lucio Amelio's original 1988 Pièce Unique gallery model, located at 4 rue Jacques Callot in Saint Germain des Prés. The gallery consists in one room, exhibiting one work of art a the time, in a space that is visible day and night from the street.

At Pièce Unique, Lucio Amelio presented 22 artists, among which: Daniel Buren, Mario Merz and Jannis Kounellis in 1989, Georg Baselitz and Cy Twombly in 1991. After Lucio Amelio's death in 1994, his associates Marussa Gravagnuolo and Christine Lahoud continued to run the space and exhibited works by Andy Warhol and Louise Bourgeois in 1995 and later Christo and Jeanne-Claude in 1998.

In 2021, MASSIMODECARLO Pièce Unique opened with an exhibition entitled CLAY BABY, by Kaari Upson [7] [8] featuring one sculpture.

The gallery functions according to Lucio Amelio's original model, exhibiting one single work at the time. Each work is presented for three to five weeks.
