MCG is part of the Hearst Health network.[1] The company provides an assessment of research and scholarly articles, along with data analysis, to give patients, providers, and payers information to make care decisions.[1]
MCG, formerly known as Milliman Care Guidelines, initially a wholly owned subsidiary of Milliman Inc., has produced evidence-based clinical guidelines since 1990.[2][3]
History[edit]
In 2012, it was acquired by the Hearst Corporation[4] and became the MCG care guidelines.[5] Previously MCG was also known as Milliman and Robertson guidelines or M&R guidelines.[6] It is one of two nationally recognized industry guidelines for the determination of medical necessity used by payers (such as Medicare and TennCare); the other is InterQual ®.[7]
MCG, develops and produces evidence-based clinical guidelines and software, which are updated annually.[8] All MCG content is developed under consideration of government regulations, such as the Mental Health Parity Act, and can be used to support achieving accreditation/certification through NCQA, URAC, and the Joint Commission.[9][8][10][11]
In 2012, MCG started integrating directly into patient electronic health records (EHRs) and medical management platforms.[12]
In January 2019, EvidenceCare announced its partnership with MCG Health to embed MCG's guidelines into its clinical decision support tool.[13]
