MGM University is a self-financed private state university located in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, India. It was established on 1 January 1982 by the Mahatma Gandhi Mission Trust and recognised as a state university under the MGM University Act, 2019 enacted by the Government of Maharashtra.[1][2][3][4]
History
MGM University originated from educational institutions established by the Mahatma Gandhi Mission Trust in 1982. The trust established several colleges in Aurangabad, Navi Mumbai, and other areas of Maharashtra, offering education in engineering, medical sciences, management, and allied fields.[5] One of its key institutions, the Jawaharlal Nehru Engineering College (JNEC), founded in 1983, later became a constituent college of MGM University following the enactment of the MGM University Act, 2019.[6]
Establishment
The Government of Maharashtra enacted the MGM University Act, 2019, conferring university status on the existing institutions under the Mahatma Gandhi Mission Trust. Academic operations under the university structure began in the 2019–20 academic year.[7]
Academics
MGM University offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs across disciplines including engineering, architecture, management, law, science, social science, and fine arts.[2] The university’s curriculum follows India’s National Education Policy 2020 (NEP) and includes practical and research-oriented components.
