MOL Ferry Co., Ltd. (商船三井フェリー株式会社 Shosen Mitsui Ferry Kabushiki-gaisha) is a marine transportation company based in Japan.
History[edit]
The MOL Ferry was first founded as the Nihon Enkai Ferry (日本沿海フェリー Japan Coastal Ferry) in 1969, operating a line between Tokyo and Tomakomai in 1972.[1]
In 1990, the company acquired Nippon Kosoku Ferry's routes and changed its name to Blue Highway Line.[1] The ferries owned by the company were unified under the "Sunflower" brand.
In 2001, the Mitsui O.S.K. Lines established MOL Ferry, and the Blue Highway Line's Oarai-Tomakomai ferry service and Tokyo-Tomakomai ro-ro cargo service were transferred.[1]
