The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Malaysia, commonly known as MPL Malaysia (MPL MY), is a professional esports league in Malaysia for the multiplayer online battle arena game (MOBA) Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. The league was established in 2018 as MPL MY/SG, combining teams from both Malaysia and Singapore. In 2021, the league was split with the two countries hosting their own independent leagues. MPL Malaysia is considered a continuation of the former MY/SG league, with its first season named "Season 7" while MPL Singapore restarted from "Season 1".
From 2021 to 2025, MPL MY used a promotion and relegation system. Starting in 2026, MPL MY will enter a franchise model similar to MPL Indonesia and MPL Philippines.
History
MPL MY/SG era (2018–2020)
League split (2021–2025)
In 2021, with Singapore beginning to host its own independent league, separating Singaporean teams from Malaysian teams, the league was renamed to MPL Malaysia from Season 7 onwards.[1]
Franchised model (2026–present)
In April 2025, ahead of the 2025 MPL Malaysia season, Fikri Rizal Mahruddin, the esports lead for Moonton in Malaysia, announced that the league could potentially enter a franchised model as part of the league's long-term strategy. Mahruddin stated following its success in MPL Indonesia and MPL Philippines, a franchise model "provides more stability and financial security for teams" and that "all the benefits would bring MPL Malaysia and Malaysian esports to the next level".[2]
On 9 September 2025, it was confirmed that MPL Malaysia would transition into a franchised model beginning in 2026, making Season 16 the last season under the promotion and relegation system, also known as the "legacy format".[3]

The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Academy League Malaysia, commonly known as MAL Malaysia (MAL MY), is MPL Malaysia's developmental league, established in 2024.
During its first three seasons, MAL Malaysia was divided into two conferences: the Affiliated Conference, composed of academy and affiliate teams of MPL Malaysia teams, and the Challenger Conference, composed of independent teams. The highest-ranked independent teams in each season earned the opportunity to be promoted to the MPL for the following season.
Starting from season 4, with MPL Malaysia transitioning to a franchised model, the conferences were removed and teams could no longer get promoted to the MPL.
