The MV Irene is a ship captured by Somali pirates in April 2009.[1] The freighter is Greek-owned, and had at least 20 crew members at the time of the hijacking.[2] It was released on September 14, 2009, after a two million dollar ransom was paid to pirates based in Eyl. [3]
